"True love can last an eternity . . . but immortality comes at a price. . . ." On the midnight shift at a hospital in rural Maine, Dr. Luke Findley is expecting another quiet evening of frostbite and the occasional domestic dispute. But the minute Lanore McIlvrae--Lanny--walks into his ER, she changes his life forever. A mysterious woman with a past and plenty of dark secrets, Lanny is unlike anyone Luke has ever met. He is inexplicably drawn to her . . . despite the fact that she is a murder suspect with a police escort. And as she begins to tell her story, a story of enduring love and consummate betrayal that transcends time and mortality, Luke finds himself utterly captivated. Her impassioned account begins at the turn of the nineteenth century in the same small town of St. Andrew, Maine, back when it was a Puritan settlement. Consumed as a child by her love for the son of the town's founder, Lanny will do anything to be with him forever. But the price she pays is steep--an immortal bond that chains her to a terrible fate for all eternity. And now, two centuries later, the key to her healing and her salvation lies with Dr. Luke Findley. Part historical novel, part supernatural page-turner, "The Taker" is an unforgettable tale about the power of unrequited love not only to elevate and sustain, but also to blind and ultimately destroy, and how each of us is responsible for finding our own path to redemption.

A magical love story written across centuries. Pleasantly surprised by this, first in a trilogy. I don‘t think I‘ll read the next two but this one is quite good. This is not romance per se, but supernatural romance for sure. An adventure telling a tale of the lengths one will go to gain the one true love.

Love , obsession ,immortality binding you to your maker , your life is in their hands and when their hands are pure evil it makes for a very dark tale.
A real page turner and not what I was expecting , there were many a time I wanted to reach into the book and hand one of the characters the DVD “he‘s just not that into you “ 😂
I wasn‘t planning to read the trilogy in one go but I will be starting the reckoning as soon as I get a spare minute!

I hate this book. The style of writing is nice. But, I hate the content. Skipped so many pages. And yet, I still get the story.

[DELETED] 3803335244 When I had my blog I talked to Alma a lot in the comments. My friend read her books & she sent my friend signed copies. We co-authored our blog. We don‘t have our site anymore but it was fun when we did. Love your haul! 7y

Don't remember ever buying this book but with an offer like 3 for Qd I can see why I did! Knew absolutely nothing about this book when I started reading it. It's a much more adult version of a young adult style of book which I enjoyed. It is full of sex which can be graphic and includes rape although they are left to your imagination rather than described in detail. I'm glad I read it I found it a bit different and quite dark

Picked this up at a romance novel convention year and years ago, so all this time I've thought it was a romance. It is NOT. I wouldn't even call it a love story--more like an "unhealthy obsession" story. BUT! It is immersive and detailed and I love those books the best. I wish there was more showing and less telling, but I really liked the plot and the ending.
