Saadia looks into the economics of 24th c Trek: TNG, DS9, VOY. He wonders what is capital with the lack of material scarcity in the Federation. He posits that it achievement. That by gaining knowledge one is accruing capital. He looked at some of the legal questions Trek posed, like the personhood of Data and the EMH.

But I LOVED that he appreciated the ambiguity and contradictions that are DS9! I thoroughly enjoyed the chapter on the Ferengi. ⬇️

This book, as its title indicates, is about the economics of the Star Trek universe. It explores many concepts. From the replicator and post scarcity, to a reputation based value for economics and finding and honoring the work that a person enjoys. It intersperses these concepts with real world examples. This serves to connect these two worlds in grounded terms, and allows the reader to dream about Star Trek once again like an idealistic child.

I posted a photo of my Christmas gifts but never posted Mr. Z's. Here were the goodies I surprised him with. The Flight book is published by the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and is full of pictures and cool trivia. 👍 (and yes, he uses toilet paper as his bookmark. It's his preferred material. Such an odd duck!)
