After reading a number of Connelly books randomly, I started (a while ago) reading the Bosch Universe books in order. BW is book 8 and features the main character of Terry McCaleb. McCaleb, a former FBI agent, is still on the mend from his recent heart transplant when he is visited by Graciela, the sister of his heart donor Gloria. Quickly, he is pulled into investigating Gloria‘s murder. I enjoyed this one, but I didn‘t find it quite as ⬇️

Bookzombie gripping as the others I have read so far. Maybe I recalled more of the 2002 movie than I would have thought. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 1y

This novel is eye-rollingly unbelievable. I did finish the whole thing, but that's mostly because I could listen to the audiobook while doing chores and working out. I have a high tolerance for ridiculous plots reading Connelly, but this one is really beyond the pale. I'm going to need a palate cleanser, I think. What's the literary antidote to a ridiculous thriller?

Texreader What a shame. I‘m currently enjoying a ridiculous historical fiction novel but of course it‘s supposed to be ridiculous. It‘s definitely a palate cleanser for all the dark novels I‘ve been reading lately. (edited) 2y
ImperfectCJ @Texreader Thanks for the rec! I actually like ridiculous a lot when it's supposed to be ridiculous. I've only read Buckley's memoir, Losing Mum and Pup, so I should probably check out some of his fiction. 2y

So I planned to rd the next bosch but saw on gr that in bosch world Terry mccaleb bk2 was bosch 9 so I went to Terry bk 1 + what a brill read. Terry is ex fbi serial killer hunter ,retired after a heart attack and a transplant, when the donor's sister asks him to investigate the murder with lots of twists + turns. A great story plus a nod to James Lee burke in Terry's t shirt and it inspired me to download series 2 of the murder book podcast.

TrishB Not read these ones 👍🏻 3y

Another solid Connelly! Though honestly I'd be much more surprised if I *didn't* like one of his books at this point. This one features a new lead, Terry McCaleb, a former FBI agent and recent recipient of a heart transplant who suddenly finds himself freelancing a new case - the murder of the woman who's heart now beats in his chest.

There were some great red herrings too, I was convinced that I had worked out the twist but was dead wrong!

bookishbitch One of the few mysteries I have read. I also really liked it. 4y
marleed I read The Lincoln Lawyer a few months ago and years after seeing the movie. I loved it, and really want to read more from him. 4y

A non-Bosch Connelly, and it's a fairly decent, if rather dated police procedural with the twist that the hero is retired FBI (dicky ticker) and the cops absolutely don't want him poking his nose in and showing them up. Bit too much of the "He clicked the mouse and opened the file" sort of thing so prevalent in books written in the late 90s but overall good fun.

I blindly started reading this book after checking it out at the local library and I was pleasantly surprised!

This book included a little bit of everything and I didn‘t want to put it down! I absolutely loved it. I got through it in about 4 days. Totally recommend!

Well-developed characters and a solid plot. No loose ends left over at the end, which I appreciate. A little romance, some suspense, a little violence, and a few twists. This was my first Michael Connelly novel and I have since picked up two more of his other books!

First time reading one of his standalone books, and was not disappointed in the slightest. Instantly became invested in Terry, and at the end of the book, felt a wave of emotions as if I knew him personally. Finished this up a few weeks ago, and yet I‘m still trying to process everything. A must-read if you don‘t feel like investing in either the Haller or Bosch series.
