Last Word | Lisa Lutz
""The Last Word" is Raymond Chandler meets "Arrested Development." Zany, witty, and full of dark surprises, Lisa Lutz's novel is pure fun--and Izzy Spellman, PI, tops the list of 'Fictional Characters I'd Like to Meet for a Bourbon.'"--Gillian Flynn, "New York Times" bestselling author of "Gone Girl" The sixth installment of the critically acclaimed, "New York Times" bestselling, Edgar- and Macavity-nominated and Alex Award-winning series by Lisa Lutz, finds our intrepid heroine of the series, Isabel Spellman, PI, at a crossroads. Izzy is used to being followed, extorted, and questioned--all occupational hazards of working at her family's firm, Spellman Investigations. Her little sister, Rae, once tailed Izzy for weeks on end to discover the identity of Izzy's boyfriend. Her mother, Olivia, once blackmailed Izzy with photo-graphic evidence of Prom Night 1994. It seemed that Spellman vigilance would dis-sipate after Izzy was fired for breaching client confidentiality, but then Izzy avenged her dismissal by staging a hostile takeover of the company. She should have known better than to think she could put such she-nanigans behind her. In "The Last Word," Izzy's troubles are just beginning. After her takeover of Spellman Investigations, her employees are the fur-thest thing from collegial...and Izzy finds herself struggling to pay the bills. But when she is accused of embezzling from a former client, the ridiculously wealthy Mr. Slayter, the stakes become immense. If Izzy gets indicted, she could lose her PI license and the Spellman family's livelihood, not to mention her own freedom. Is this the end of Izzy Spellman, PI? "The Last Word" is, hands down, the most powerful book in the bestselling, award-nominated Spellman series.

This is the final book in The Spellman Files and a satisfying conclusion. I‘m both happy and sad to have finished it. I will miss Izzy and the rest of this dysfunctional detective family, Spellmans and non-Spellmans alike. #seriescatchup #completed

Booksnchill Love the Unit! 5y
Bookzombie @Booksnchill Me too! I also really like Maggie and Demetrius. 5y

Casebook #6 and the last of the Spellman Files. I have really enjoyed the characters in this book- dysfunctional family of private eyes in the most fun and odd ways. You really don‘t see them coming and each book gets stranger. If you like Stephanie Plum you‘ll like these- sorry I am done with them but it was a fun ride with Izzy, Ray and Princess Banana!

DogEaredBooks I loved these books too! 6y
Booksnchill @DogEaredBooks I was late to the party but try to recommend them when I can! 6y
DogEaredBooks @Booksnchill preaching to the choir! I only found them a year or so ago and had to pace myself so I didn‘t race through them! 🙈And passing on the bookish love for them is always my favorite part of finding new favorite! 6y

Thanks to @Suzze for cluing me in that this book exists with her #six post for #Novemberbythenumbers. I got this from the library (first time in a while for an actual PHYSICAL library book) so I could read the footnotes. I loved this but will also be sad if it‘s the last one in the series.

Jess7 I really liked the tagged book that she wrote. Someone recommended The Spellman Files - series to me. I bought the first one, but haven‘t started it. Is this one of them? Do you like her series? Have you read the tagged book? 6y
Pamwurtzler @Jess7 The Last Word reads like it‘s the last book in the Spellman Files series to me. I liked them all. I have not read The Passenger but just added it to my TBR based on the synopsis in GR. Thanks for the tip! #blameitonlitsy 6y
Pamwurtzler @Jess7 I forgot to ask - is it full of footnotes? Should I read the physical book or will it work on kindle? 6y
Jess7 I don‘t recall any footnotes. I read it this summer. I read half of it in physical book form from my library and switched to Kindle when my overdrive hold came in. It was a quick read and very suspenseful. 6y

My summer reading list. I found I have a habit of saving some books for summer (is that weird? Yes? Well 🤷‍♀️) but this is my optimistic list for this summer bc I always get distracted!

KCorter You're not alone! I did the same thing in college. I could only average a few books during the semester, so I would save the ones I really wanted to savor for summertime. 7y
britt_brooke Great stack! 7y
DogEaredBooks @KCorter I feel a little less like an oddball then! ❤️ that's probably why mine started too now know I think about it. Great minds like alike! 7y
Megabooks You've got a lot of good ones!! 7y
