Found out my local library has a book sale every Tuesday. I went in with low expectations, but I should have gone in with will power instead. 🤦‍♀️ but I found some great books —- even a coverless Daisy Jones and Veronica Mars! 👏

I have a plans to go to another library book sale on Friday so hopefully I can limit myself to a smaller #bookhaul after this one

From this stack I actually read all but one (I think it may be the only time to have ever happened!). I loved all but two so I‘m happy with the results! Maybe this is my inpso to read more of what I buy!

Read this, more like consumed this, book in a day. And wow. A good book that brought up and tackled a lot of potential tricky topics. Who would have thought a book about the secrets that kindergarten mom‘s have would be so dark and fascinating?

Side note: I checked the shows IMDb page after reading it and I think it is perfectly cast - exactly what I thought they would look like!

Wow. This book covers a lot. Mostly focusing on the life and aftershocks of one woman it also dives deep into the sociological effects in US society.

One of timely coincidences is that this books also has a lot to say about Reagan and his presidency (and it‘s uncomfortably similar to a Cheeto in charge).

Sum up: read this if you loved Mastermind or love sociological narratives with true crime mixed in

Hooked_on_books I just finished this one and I was thinking exactly what you mentioned about Reagan and the Cheeto. Scary. 😱 4mo
DogEaredBooks @Hooked_on_books it really is. 🤮. Also what did you think of the book? 4mo
Hooked_on_books @DogEaredBooks Frankly, I wanted more from it. It felt more like reporting than a true biography. We got the facts of her life but I still don‘t feel like I know her. I also wanted more of the tie-in to the political scene. 4mo
DogEaredBooks @Hooked_on_books I can see those points. I think he could have done more to tie in the effects of this on a political level. And I too wanted more about her in a more sociological or psychological background but I think from his citations that may not have been possible. 4mo

In the past two days I finished these two amazing (and very different books) ironically ending my two month streak of reading only female authored books. I didn‘t realize the common theme 👑until I gather my library returns.

I recommend both of the books so strongly and I think they both generate deep conversations.

I really liked this book. It took a bit longer to get into than his first one (kitchens of the Great Midwest) but it had that same warm expansive tone that I enjoyed.

The ending was a bit unexpected and I love how it‘s written non-chronologically with different characters perspective.

Omg I just finished this book and I want to add my love to the cacophony of love for this book. I had medium high expectations and it was so much better. It had more depth than I was expecting, the right amount of warmth and romance — all together the perfect summer book. So if anyone is waffling I strongly recommend it! ♥️❤️

I grabbed a couple books from my library sale room and the tagged book reeks so strongly of cigarette smoke I have to return it. I‘ve never had this happen before but used books have adventurous pasta right? Hopefully someone else will be able to get past it 😬

For a book that was based on the life of a interesting woman this book fell flat - the characters lacked depth & the ending was cliche.
The constant comments about Alice‘s Ohio naïveté really started to grate and it‘s poor/lack of handling of women‘s rights was irritating. I understand that the book is placed in the 60s and feminism has changed a lot but I think there is a missed opportunity to really dig into the complexities and changes.

Just finished this audiobook — a memoir about Molly Bloom who ends up in the ever odd world of the moneyed powerful elite to run poker games.

It was interesting but there is little in Bloom‘s life that I found relatable so it won‘t be add to my Favorites list any time soon. HOWEVER the one thing I want to share with everyone because I‘m annoyed this isn‘t more well know is the TOBY MCGUIRE is The Worst. Seriously. maybe even nearly sociopathy.

Schlinkles He is the worst! Have you seen the movie? It was pretty good and Michael Cera was a pretty good sleazy imitation of Toby Maguire. 6mo
DogEaredBooks @Schlinkles I haven‘t seen it yet (and this is the first time the movie cover pulled me in). I do want to see it though - I love Jessica Chastin— so I‘m glad to hear good reviews! But seriously Toby is the worst! I‘m surprised he wasn‘t more upset about the book/movie (edited) 6mo

New library haul. I have no regrets (other than I wish my arms were longer so I could hold more books). Some I had heard of and others were brand new to me. Anyone read any of these?

Copwithabook Early Riser was a fun but strange read (that I kind of hope gets made into a movie with Kate mcKennon playing one of the characters). 6mo

I love this book so much. Sy Montgomery is always a great writer and this is one of those books that from the first page I knew I would love it. One of those sweet tender books that leave a little mark on you. If you need a pick me up in this crazy winter try this one!

Texreader Ok I‘m struggling the last two days with this one. It was on my tbr list. Saw it at bookstores yesterday and today and just randomly turned to a page and it wasn‘t what I expected and took it off my tbr list. And now your review!! Do I put it back on my list? 11mo
DogEaredBooks @Texreader It is a more personal memoir than her usual writings but I really did enjoy it. If you‘re not sure I would say read one of the chapters (they are mostly stand alone essays) and go from there. 11mo

This cozy mystery series is a quick read and it takes place in Cleveland! Perfect for fall. I can‘t wait for the third one that comes out this spring.

The series is about Lana Lee who is working at her parents Chinese restaurant and murders keep happening around her. It‘s nothing too horrific or complex, but they are well written and enjoyable!
