After 3 Spellman Files books in a row, I spent the last two weeks reading some highbrow stuff (sorry, no pictures... they were free on Serial Reader). I feared I was going soft on my literary habits. Then I picked this one up and face-palmed myself within the first few chapters because IT'S SO DAMN FUN! Why did I wait this long? I love you, Izzy! #aprilreads #offmyhighbrowhorse #spellmanfiles

Daisey I read this a while ago, but don't remember much about it. It's my next planned Serial Reader reread. 7y
Ellie93 I read it quite a while ago as well but I remember enjoying the reading a lot. Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors! 7y
lillinares @Ellie93 @Daisey I thought this was a really sweet one. It did take a while, though, to understand Mr. Tilney... At first I thought he was so rude, but then I realized he was just being sarcastic most of the time. I enjoyed that. 😜 7y
Ellie93 Agreed! Austen is great at making characters look a certain way and then showing who they really are and why they behave a certain way. They're so complex but I do enjoy that as well 😊 @lillinares (edited) 7y

Loved these little books so much. May we raise our children right, girls and boys, to respect one another, to see themselves as equals. Always. In every way.
"Teach her that the idea of 'gender roles' is absolute nonsense. Do not ever tell her that she should or should not do something because she is a girl.
'Because you are a girl' is never reason for anything.
Ever." - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

On my 3rd Spellman Series book. 😁 I giggle so often reading these, it's the best. I've just ordered the two books for my book club's next meeting, both by the amazing Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. So, I'll get to more serious matters than Izzy's insane and hilarious antics when they arrive at my door step.

Ahhh! I've been wanting to get these books for so long! They were the two required readings I loved the most when I was in school. And I'm so glad I found these gorgeous Penguin editions. 🐧 #penguinclassics #penguin #ciadasletras

I didn't know Margaret Atwood until last year, when I read The Handmaid's Tale, which is one of the greatest books I have ever come across. The more I learn about her, the more I admire her strength and the power she bestows upon all of us women through her words. You are a goddess, ma'am. You make me feel like one too. Today is our day. .

I was maybe 15 years-old when I found this book at my home's bookshelf. I was immediately intrigued. It looked like many hands had held it, so that must have meant it was a good book. I'm pretty sure this was the first medieval-history-fantasy book I read, and it has informed so much of who I am today, and what my tastes, and dreams, and beliefs are made of. #strongwomen

So here I am having a pretty good time reading this series... It's cute, funny, snarky. Then the characters start watching Doctor Who (the new series) and making comments on the episodes, and now I'm having THE BEST TIME EVER! HECK YEAH! No one I know watches Doctor Who (I tried to make my husband watch it, but he didn't go past the Christopher Ecclestone series), so now I feel like Izzy and I really are best friends. #doctorwho

I did it!!! I finished this drag of a book! Don't get me wrong, it's a superbly well written and researched story, but it's a tough, exhausting read. I joked that it was my Everest, and it turns out it really was. Reaching the end felt like climbing a mountain. On the really bright side though, my Latin skills are sharp now! De te fabula narratur. 😉

This book is my Everest. I've been trying to finish it for YEARS. I am only one book away from completing my yearly challenge on Goodreads, so, I've decided that this will be the one to do it. I have 8 days left to finally reach the end of this freaking labyrinth! #umbertoeco #toomuchlatin #readingchallenge #2016readingchallenge

Bookzombie Do you like it? This is an option for my #birthdaychallenge next year. 🤓 7y
lillinares @Bookzombie Yeah! It's an incredibly dense mystery, full of mysticism. (edited) 7y

lillinares @twohectobooks True! And tried doing the that the first time I began this book. But this time I got a companion book called "The Key To The Name Of The Rose" and I feel like I'm studying more than just reading. It takes forever to get through a chapter, but everything makes a lot more sense. ? (edited) 7y
kim.guernsey Good luck! 7y
Madeline I am two books away from finishing the #readharder challenge, too! I am at 70% of The Garden of Evening Mists (SE Asia) and about 20% into Yes, Chef (food memoir). 7y
lillinares @Madeline Good luck, Madeline! We can do this!! 🙌🏼 7y
bookmagic I've been reading this for years, too 😃 I don't think I will get to it finish it this year but it will be on the list for next year 7y
Sydsavvy I've tried too, but only briefly. This makes me feel so much better! I'll wait until you finish to see if I should retry to scale that mountain. 7y

Loved this book. I felt like I was right there in the 1930s Papua New Guinea. It also managed to spark my interest in anthropology, which until now was slim at best. The book had some weaknesses. I couldn't understand why the author chose to make Nell such a complacent wife while being so forward thinking in every other aspect of her life. But alas, the book was great in everything else.

akfreeborn I thought this book evoked a place and era better than most! Great read! 7y
