Sex, Murder and a Double Latte
Sex, Murder and a Double Latte | Kyra Davis
7 posts | 13 read | 14 to read
When a mystery writer cries bloody murder, everyone blames her overactive imagination Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccinos can be. So Sophie knows it's not paranoia or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave. When a filmmaker friend is brutally murdered in the manner of a death scene in one of his movies, Sophie becomes convinced that a copycat killer is on the loose and that she's the next target. If she doesn't solve the mystery, her own bestseller will spell out her doom. Cursing her grisly imagination (why, oh, why did she have to pick the ax?), Sophie engages in some real-life gumshoe tactics. The man who swoops in to save her in dark alleys is mysterious new love interest Anatoly Darinsky. Of course, if this were fiction, Anatoly would be her prime suspect.

Apparently, I read this a few years ago because audible says I finished it. I remember nothing about it except for midway through there was a murder that seems vaguely familiar. I needed a break from everything, though, and I thought I‘d reread it because I love the title. It was just the right break from the lousy things that have happened in the last week. Things have improved this week, fortunately. And I finished the book. Again.

CatLass007 It made me laugh in a few places, which was just what I needed. My lost kitty returned home after a week at large. Various and sundry other good things have happened today too. They don‘t quite make up for the pipe bursting in my guest bath, and my best friend being in hospice care, but at least they‘ve lightened my mood. I‘ll give this book a pick at 3 1/2 stars. 4y
MaleficentBookDragon I‘m sorry to hear about your friend, but I‘m happy that your kitty is home. 4y

I was initially kind of annoyed by this book, but by the end it won me over. A cute little story, all in all. I‘d probably read more from the series.

When a string of murders occur in circumstance similar to each person‘s form of art, Sophie Katz finds herself stepping into a detective role before she becomes the next victim. To be honest, this book was hard to get through, the dialogue made me cringe and everyone was a painful stereotype. I hate giving bad reviews but just did not enjoy it that much 🤷‍♀️

EleniKara @Cinfhen thank you haha I was too stubborn to put it down & part of me needed to know the mystery. But yeah, I usually don‘t pick up those cheesy cozies so it was a time. @4thhouseontheleft 😂 right? The writer clearly had fun with it so have to give credit there 5y
