This was such a fun cozy mystery! I loved the characters, the setting, the chocolate, and the hints that Caitlyn could have a magical nemesis on her hands. Sign me up for the rest of the series.

I think this one‘s permanently free, too, if you‘re in the mood for a magical mystery set in the ever-deadly Cotswolds. (Don‘t go there. You WILL be murdered.)

xicanti ETA: in the two weeks since I downloaded this, Hanna has switched the series to Kindle-only and removed it from all subscription services, including Kindle Unlimited. 😔 I guess I won‘t get to barrel through the books after all. 3y

I‘m enjoying Abby Collette‘s first Ice Cream Parlour mystery so much that I went searching for her two older series. Neither Kobo nor Amazon has them so I guess they‘re out of print, but the algorithms told me I might like Taiwanese-Australian writer H.Y. Hanna. Her first witchy cozy‘s free, too! I‘ll give it a try in the near future. #LaTBRrevealed

AmyReadsAlot I just picked this book and I‘m excited to read it. ❤️ 3y
xicanti @GenreMinxReviews hopefully we‘ll both enjoy it! 3y
BethM Ooh fun! I‘ll go download! 3y

#Booked2019
#Food or Beverage on cover

I don‘t normally read cozy mysteries, and I fear that this is splashing an unfavorable bias on my review. The book has everything a cozy should have, e.g., village life; busybodies; eccentrics; pets; nevertheless it still fell short for me. The author writes well, and this particular cozy includes a vampire & several witches—these characters do add interest. But the book feels unresolved. I know the idea⬇️

gradcat ⬆️ is to entice readers to continue on with the series, but it does seem like the author should give a more satisfactory sense of an ending than she does here. The killer is never apprehended, and thus never faces justice, which to me is a huge gap in a cozy book. If this sounds like something you would like—go for it—she writes well. I just cannot recommend it overall for the reasons given. 😔 5y
alisiakae That title is so cheesy. 😂 5y
wanderinglynn I read this one. I did enjoy it (I gave it 3.5 stars) but I agree with the cliffhanger ending—a cozy mystery should resolve the murder in one book. 5y

Cinfhen Oh cozies are really so bad...... 5y
gradcat @4thhouseontheleft I know, right? Whoever heard of “Dark, Witch & Creamy?” Kind of senseless, if you ask me. 😂 5y
gradcat @Cinfhen I agree, but I‘m in progress of about 6 books at the moment, and I wanted to get some of my #Booked2019 completed. By the way, is it okay to change a book? I had listed one book for the “Features a Musician” prompt, but my friend just sent me a copy of his book that would do as well as the one I listed before, when I posted all of my intended books for Spring prompts. 5y
gradcat @wanderinglynn You know, as far as the writing goes, she‘s really good. I read so many lower-priced books from Amazon that are SO poorly written & edited, so it‘s hard to pan it, but that ending! I thought, “It‘s over?!?” Really bugged me, and hence my spotty review. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @gradcat You can definitely change your planned books anytime! It‘s part of the fun! 👏🏻👏🏻 (edited) 5y
gradcat @BarbaraTheBibliophage Thank you very much for letting me know! ♥️ 5y

(Day 26 - #BewitchedBotheredAndBewildered)

*A little too on-the-nose? I know, but I can‘t help it. “Bewitched” was my absolute favorite show when I was very young. I even remember thinking that Ella Fitzgerald sang this song because of the tv show. Ah, such is youth....
But the tagged book is the first of the “Bewitched by Chocolate” series, and I will be reviewing the book for the cozy prompt from Booked2019.

Leftcoastzen So cool , loved this show. 5y
Cathythoughts Doesn‘t this man here look a tiny bit like Jim Carey ???? 5y
Cinfhen I LOVED Bewitched too ✨💫✨ 5y

CarolynM I was a fan too. I used to try so hard to twitch my nose😂 5y
BooknerdsLife Oh I love Bewitched so much too!!! 😍😍 5y
RohitSawant Haven't seen the show but love the Ella Fitzgerald version so much! 💜 5y
gradcat @Cathythoughts He DOES look like Jim Carrey! You‘re absolutely right—I never noticed that before. The photo is of Dick York, who only played one season; thereafter, the role of Darren Stephens was played by Dick Sargent. I‘m sure that‘s much more than you wanted to know about “Bewitched.” 😂 5y
gradcat @Leftcoastzen @Cinfhen @BooknerdsLife Me, too. I sometimes watch it in reruns on tv, but it‘s as if I watched every show—I remember all of them! And @CarolynM I did exactly the same thing with my 👃🏼! 5y
gradcat @rohit-sawant Omigod, me too! She was a queen! I had the luxury of seeing her in a small venue when she was accompanied by Joe Pass (another of my musical heroes) on guitar—fabulous! 5y

#TellMeTuesday
1. For my personal library, rarely. For books I don‘t plan on keeping, yes.
2. 🤷🏼‍♀️ can‘t think of the last time someone asked to borrow something.
3. Rarely.
4. HP‘s invisibility cloak
5. “Borrowed” via Amazon Prime reading

umbrellagirl I would choose Hermione‘s bag! 6y
wanderinglynn @umbrellagirl I already have one of those! Although mine‘s a bit larger, but I pull all sorts of interesting things out of it! 🤣🤣🤣 6y
Ke633 I want HP‘s cloak as well! Thanks for sharing! 6y

I‘ve read several of these magical/paranormal cozy mysteries lately thanks to Amazon Prime reading. This one by far was the best one. Ms. Hanna does a great job balancing the murder mystery with the magical journey.
