Defying the expectations of family and teachers, Yuugo Hachiken chooses to leave the city and enroll at Ooezo Agricultural High School. Having always been at the top of his class, Yuugo assumes a rural school will be a breeze, but mucking out stables, gathering eggs, and chasing errant calves takes a lot out of him-and fills him with something he's never experienced before. Surrounded by endless fields and fresh air, Yuugo discovers a new connection to the land and to life...Springtime begins at Ezo AG!!

My husband had us watch Silver Spoon because it's by the same person as Full Metal Alchemist and because he loves slice of life. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I absolutely loved it. So far, the manga is just as wonderful. It's really rewarding watching Hachiken adjust to the agricultural high school and embark on a journey to find his future dreams. I also love the depictions of food throughout this series! #Manga

A woman I was interacting with this weekend was complaining that her $300 purse broke earlier that day. I had several thoughts about this purse, but my very first thought was about how it wouldn't have fit the manga I had stowed away in my own purse!

Bookzombie I require my purse to be able to hold a book or at least my Kindle. 🙂 3y
Kenyazero @Bookzombie Very important requirements! 3y

Fun and informative new #manga series about the new kid at an agricultural high school. Yuugo Hachiken is a high-achieving student with no farm experience who assumes ag school will be a breeze. He doesn‘t count on the incredible physical demands of farming, the practicality of raising animals for food, or his classmates‘ life experience and clear goals for the future. Really eye-opening and original topic. #ya #hubchallenge19

This is the first book of manga I've ever read, and although it's not my favorite genre, I can see its appeal. I'm glad I read this, and enjoyed the life lessons embedded within the story. #BookRiotReadHarderChallenge2019: a book of manga #ReadingThroughTheYears192021 #2014

papertimemachines I don't read a lot of manga, but if you want to try more, I think I remember liking Fruit Basket. 5y
CoffeeNBooks @megansaurusrex Thanks! I'll check it out! 5y
sk888888 Manga wasn‘t my favorite prompt for this challenge; I‘m glad to have it done with! 5y
sheshedbooks Read a few volumes of this and really liked it! I did read it after watching the two seasons of its anime. What made you choose this manga? 5y
CoffeeNBooks @grayidlings Someone else had posted about it, and not knowing where to even begin with picking manga to read, I chose this one. 5y

Interesting! No cell phones at this boarding school. (The students have just returned from Golden Week.)

Amabear I think that‘s genius. Cyber bullying, sexting, cheating on tests- all major issues in schools now a days. Cell phones for students has become something terrible. I love this. 5y
Lindy @Amabear Yes, I see the benefits of this policy. 👍 5y
saresmoore I would like for someone to please take away my cell phone? 5y

The premise: a city boy with excellent grades decides to switch to an agricultural college and figures he‘ll be the academic champ there. Turns out there‘s a lot of hands-on classes and he‘s a fish out of water among the farm kids. A warm and funny #manga in a contemporary rural setting in northern Japan, from the author of Fullmetal Alchemist. #graphicnovel #translation

“Don‘t name that piglet.”
“If you must name him, make it something like ‘pork bowl.‘”

(When I was growing up, the pigs on our farm were always called ‘pork chop.‘)

A sentence to strike fear into any teenager‘s heart. (Especially when the teacher could be Lord Buddha‘s twin.)

Hooked_on_books Heck, that sentence strikes fear in MY heart! 😱 5y

I‘m loving the food science and agriculture discussions in this story! A #manga surprise. (Remember to read the speech balloons from right to left.)

batsy I'm loving the excerpts you've shared from this. 5y
