When Kendra first visits her ailing grandmother, Ella has only one request: that Kendra write her story down, before she forgets... In 1937, seventeen-year-old Ella's life changes forever when she is sent to spend the summer on the beautiful ?le de R? and meets the charismatic, creative Christophe. They spend the summer together, exploring the island's sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, and, for the first time in her life, Ella feels truly free. But the outbreak of war casts everything in a new light. Ella is forced to return to Scotland, where she volunteers for the war effort alongside the dashing Angus. In this new world, Ella feels herself drifting further and further from who she was on the ?le de R?. Can she ever find her way back? And does she want to? From the windswept ?le de R? to the rugged hills of Scotland, Sea of Memories is a spellbinding journey about the power of memory, love and second chances.

The story was moving around me like a colourful kaleidoscope. The book holds a cast of strong characters that I fell in love with, the author made them come alive. I felt the love of friends, the passion of lovers, the struggles of marriage and parenting, and the heart wrenching lost of the characters the readers were left to mourn.
Fiona Valpy breathlessly pulled me along a journey I will always remember.

The tagged book is set on the Ile de Ré off the coast of France. I read it whilst on holiday on the island, looking out over the ocean.

I found out I have a job interview next week ?

Like a lot of other Littens - Summertime by Will Smith. It reminds me of sixth form and driving around, just after passing my driving test!

Tagging anyone who wants to play.

Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira Best of energies for your interview! 🙏🏻 4y
TrishB Good luck Helen 👍🏻 is it a face to face interview? 4y

saresmoore Incredible photo! 6y
Lynnsoprano @saresmoore Thanks! It‘s one I‘m very proud of, and a great memory of our visit to Monterey Bay Aquarium. 6y
Christine Love!! We used to live in Monterey and were aquarium members, but no matter how many visits the beauty of the jellies never got old. 💙 6y

Lynnsoprano @Christine We went with friends, so we couldn‘t enjoy at our own pace. Otherwise, I might never have left 😄 6y
Susanita I love that place! I could just watch the otters all day! 6y
RavenLovelyReads Every time we visited, I had to delete hundreds of jellyfish photos. The hubby lived them!! 6y
Lynnsoprano @RavenLovelyReads I took literally hundreds of pictures that day we spent at the aquarium, and the only two still on my phone are of the jellies. 6y

Sitting on a nearly empty beach on the Ile de Ré, reading my book set on the Ile de Ré - it doesn‘t get much better than that!

Vicki1109 Reading Sea of Memories now and it makes me want to go to Il de Re. How great you could be there while you read it! 5y
squirrelbrain It certainly was lovely to read it there @Vicki1109 - have you been? 5y
Vicki1109 No, not yet, but it's definitely on my must-see list now for the next time I'm in France. I finished the book, it was good, I liked it. 😀 5y
