So much candy from my youth: dum dum, bazooka bubble gum, lifesavers, M&Ms, milk duds. Andres mints: nostalgia, my mom was an elegant entertainer. Andres mints were always available in a fancy dish. She shared one each with us.❤️

After death comes for each character, they have the opportunity to portray their lives in photos, one from each year of life. The reader accompanies them for a revisit to a day that changed their lives. There is no morality check or judgement. These characters become dear by sharing their fears and joys. This book manages to be warm and comforting even as it focuses on endings.
A light Pick. The chapters are short and follow the same format, so this is a good book to pick up and put down. If you are looking for fast-paced plot, look elsewhere. I liked this for what it was and what I am able to read at the moment. The food descriptions were great too. Not going to actively seek out the other books, but they are good to have in mind if I need them.
A comfort read, for sure. Each chapter works as its own story, so it was easy to pick up, read a story, and come back later when I wanted to spend more time with Nagare, Koishi, and the various customers of the diner/detective agency (and Drowsy the cat!). It really hit on how food is tied to our memories and how comforting that nostalgia is, even if the memories themselves are often complicated/not completely happy.
Having a little bite to eat outside before work
Bite to eat before work and a bit of reading.
For #nationalindependentbookstoreday 🇺🇸, I spent a few hours hunting down books that would replace lost library books and delete student fines. It was so hard not to buy books I love and focus on specific titles. It's also #schoollibrarymonth. If your kids have outgrown their books, see if the local grade school will take them.
There‘s something rather charming about the idea of the recently deceased stopping in a magical photo studio to help create a photo lantern, made with a photograph from every year of their life. Then there is also the chance to revisit a moment from their past, to take a photo of a moment that they really treasured - they are guided in this by Mr. Hirasaka.

This book is so cute! I‘m so glad I picked it up at the library the other day. Koishi and her Dad run a hard to find restaurant and detective agency. You describe a dish associated with a memory that you want to taste again and they will make it for you, make it taste the same as it did in that memory.
Highly, highly recommend if you need something cozy to read.
