I loved Sidney Taylor‘s All of a Kind series as a child 🧡🧡. There is now a picture book about the family - Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, Gertie and parents - and their Hanukkah celebrations.

I got really excited when I saw there was a Hanukkah title of this series, but I was expecting it to be one of the original chapter books not a children‘s picture book, & the comparison falls short. It was cool to see full color illustrations instead of the black & white line art ones I remember growing up with, but that was about all this added to the series. No development of the characters or time period, & a generic description of Hanukkah.

I thought this was a very cute book. The illusions are gorgeous, and it was fun reading about this family's Chanukah traditions. It made me a little mad how determined the mom was to not find some way the 4-year-old could help prep dinner. The kid just wanted to help prep and mom punished her by sending her to her room!

Fans of the All of a Kind Family will join them back in 1912, on the Lower East Side of NYC, and watch as preparations for Hanukkah are made. This was a top fave series for me growing up!

It's been forever since I thought of All-of-a-Kind Family, so finding this at the bookstore over the weekend brought up a lot of bookish memories! I'm pretty sure I did a book report on one of the original books!

I loved this series as a child (this one is not by Sydney Taylor however). Books allowed me to discover cultures, places and eras unknown to me. Case in point this book about a Jewish family in turn of the century New York celebrating Hanukkah or #FestivalofLights ! 🕎
