so-soI had to fit in at least one Christmas book this year while on break, and this was cute. The second half was stronger than the first half. I admittedly didn‘t love the dual-timeline storytelling about Patrick and Quinn‘s past, and I would have preferred if it stayed in the present leaning more into the Santa plot. The beginning also read exactly like Tim Allen‘s The Santa Clause so felt a bit unoriginal. But the world expanded as the book went on.
pickDespite how fast things happen for his characters, I think this is one of his best books. Kimberly Rossi‘s father sends her to a dream writer‘s conference. There she meets Zeke and everything seems to be going perfectly in the beginning. Can I just say Kim is a bit of a drama queen. If I didn‘t know people like her I‘d otherwise say the author was stretching it.
so-soThis would have been much better as a movie or Netflix series. The premise was cute, the characters were lovable, and there were several laugh-out-loud scenes. But… the writing was just not good, and in some cases cringe-worthy. Some paragraphs were just fine. Others were filled with oddball metaphors, random details, and bizarre banter. It almost felt like there were two authors. 3⭐️

pickThis was an impulse buy when I was shopping for new lamps at Homesense ( TJ Maxx) where I spotted quite the collection of current books for sale ( I have to get my fix somewhere now that 🇨🇦 Costco doesn‘t sell books anymore 😢) this story follows the Christmas rom-com formula ( with some unsubtle nods to Love, Actually among others) and it‘s delightful ❤️
