The first novel of New York Times bestselling author Jude Deverauxs breathtaking new series set in Summer Hill, a small town where love takes center stage against the backdrop of Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice Enter Elizabeth Bennet. Chef Casey Reddick has had it up to here with men. When she arrives in the charming town of Summer Hill, Virginia, she leaves behind a demanding boss at a famous D.C. restaurant and a breakup with a boyfriend jealous of her success. Some peace and quiet on the picturesque Tattwell plantation is just what she needs to start fresh. But the tranquility is broken one misty morning when she sees a gorgeous naked man on the porch of her cottage. Enter Mr. Darcy. What Tate Landers, Hollywood heartthrob and owner of Tattwell, doesnt need on a bittersweet trip to his ancestral home is a woman spying on him from his guest cottage. Mistaking Casey for a reporter, Tate tries to run her out of her own house. His anger, which looks so good on the screen, makes a very bad first impression on Casey. Hollywood he may be, but hes no sweetheart to Caseyand she lets him know it! The plot thickens. Sparks flyliterallywhen Casey is recruited to play Elizabeth Bennet opposite Tates Mr. Darcy in a stage adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Just brushing past Tate makes Caseys whole body hum. As they spar on and off stage, Casey begins to think shes been too quick to judge. Tate is more down-to-earth than Casey expected, and she finds herself melting under his smoldering gaze. But then Tates handsome ex-brother-in-law, Devlin Haines, who is playing Wickham, tells Casey some horrifying stories about Tate. She is upset and confused as she tries to figure out who and what to believe. As she finds herself falling for Tate, Casey needs to know: Is the intense, undeniable chemistry between them real, or is this just a performance that ends when the curtain falls? Switching it up to a contemporary retelling today: a local theater is putting on a production of P&P, but the reality of everyone's lives seems to be reflecting the story a little more than one might expect...

This one was a case of good concept/poor execution in my person opinion, although there are a lot of positive reviews for this one, so maybe I'm just a grump haha I spent a lot of the book being confused about the relationships/connections⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) between the characters as there is very little explanation given for how all of these people who are apparently half-siblings to one another since their dad was a sperm donor, actually found each other?? Beyond that, I was still prepared to give this book a decent rating, but the ending went off the rails when “Wickham“ absconds with “Lydia“ and instead of CALLING THE POLICE, the entire crew decides to lure him back to finish acting ⬇ 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) in the play!??! I couldn't get over it! Full review, including a bit of ranting, can be found here lol - https://thearomaofbooks.wordpress.com/2017/07/23/the-girl-from-summer-hill-by-ju...

mabell I like the idea of the actors‘ lives reflecting the play! That could be a very cool adaptation! But then I‘m lost on the sperm donor and kidnapping thing 😂 3y
TheAromaofBooks @mabell - I literally tried to find out if this is a spin-off series or something where it would make sense that a reader would theoretically already know some of these people, but I can't find any connection to any of her other books! So maybe it's just me overthinking things 😂 But the kidnapping really was bizarre, like a crazy dude just stole a 15-year-old with sexually nefarious plans... guess we'll just trick him into coming back!?!? 3y
CrowCAH Wow a sperm donor and all the children unit. Now that‘s quite the dynamic! 3y

Really enjoyed this book and hope there is more books coming in the series. This one is a modern twist of my favorite book (Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen) and I think it does it justice (Felt let down with Eligible last year)

Easy read and I was going through all the emotions while reading it. #MrDarcylove #currentread #slaythatseries #readingchallenges #Shadowloungereadathon

After a long busy week of getting ready for the move I finally get to participate in #litsypartyofone. Everyone else is asleep so I get to rock my Saturday night with some chocolate milk and a romance.

Chachic I'm in the process of moving too! It"s such a pain.? 7y
TEArificbooks @Chachic so far it hasn't been too stressful, but it is keeping me busy. Keeping the house clean and staged to show but at the same time trying to pack and purge and boxes everywhere. Very little time to read. 7y

I almost made it all the way through an audio book. Except I cheated and read several chapters on an e-book because the narrator was reading too slow and I was desperate to know what happened. I loved the characters. The villain was a terrible person who hurt everyone but was caught in the end. My favorite character was Emmy with her pink outfits and easy acceptance. #romansty

Read the first pages at the library and had to take this home - I haven't read Jude Deveraux in years but the shower scene cracked me up and I got hooked. We'll see if it lasts - I think I bailed on the last one of hers I tried.

I couldn't finish - I just couldn't do it! Some of my favorite romance novels are early Deveraux but these later ones are pale pale imitations. This makes me so sad.

I said I wouldn't read any "Girl" books but I could not resist this! JD writes more simply and straightforward than I remembered, but it was still fun. Writing a believable P&P within P&P within P&P is super hard, and while there were some rough spots she really pulled it off!

BestOfFates Okay, I'm ignorant, what's p&p? 8y
BestOfFates Okay, just read down and now assumed you're saying pride & prejudice - though I'm still not sure I understand! 8y
Jessisreading You're right, it's pride and prejudice! The characters of the novel are based on the characters, and they're in a play adaptation of the book. So it's like Austenception in there. 8y

It's been about a decade since I've read a new JD (after I devoured everything she'd written in my teens) but I saw the words Pride and Prejudice and came running.
