A dark read. 2 little sisters, one found guilty of murdering a child. The sisters have drifted apart during the incarceration of the oldest sister. The youngest sister has buried her childhood past from her husband under her new identity. To see the ramifications of such an heinous act on the family and friends of the accused girl was also very thought provoking in that we always feel empathy for the victims family not the perpetrators family. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Panpan

Felt pretty So-So about this from the start but the ending made it a definite Pan. The writing is clunky, it has no flow & is jarring to read - just so awkward. The structure didn't help matters - too disjointed. The similarities to the Bulger case didn't sit well with me. The darkness of the ending was distasteful with no satisfactory resolutions. The only 'happy ending' was for the murderer. Just no.

BookwormM The Jamie Bulger likeness made me really uncomfortable 3y
lazydaizee It sounds a bit disturbing, I will give this one a miss. 3y

Next up is this one. Reviews have mentioned the echoes of the Jamie Bulger murder case ... I still get so upset to think about that so not sure if this will be for me ... 😥

BookwormM That was my problem with the book the Bulger echoes were too much for me 3y

A very emotional read, it reminded me so much of the Jamie Bulger case. A very compelling story which I thought was absolutely fantastic. You will never forget the flower girls.

Uncomfortable. Chilling. And utterly twisted. Told sympathetically but leaving you feeling cold.

This was a very enjoyable book, which I found difficult to put down, almost reading it in one session. It is very well written, although with a theme linked to child murder by other children, at times it is very uncomfortable reading. In the U.K. it brought to mind the Jamie Bulger Murder. It was very well written, and I would be interested in reading other books written by the author. There were a couple of big twists towards the end.

OutsmartYourShelf I thought exactly the same thing about the James Bulger murder when I read this one. Good read. 5y

Started listening to The Flower Girls, which seems based on an interesting premise.

Great premise, and gripping story following the 2 sisters in present day and past, a tiny bit predictable. But the ending was a real letdown, it just suddenly stopped with a little twist, needed another chapter or a sequel IMO.

Either my obsession with thrillers has given me an amazing talent of knowing how a book is going to end or I‘ve been on a string of really predictable books. Nice quick read, but obvious what‘s happened from the start

I am a bit late in posting this, but hopefully I will get through these books in May. I have already finished Loch of the Dead (not in pic), reading the tagged book and The Fire Court. #tbr #books #lovebooks

24-2019 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I found this book reminded me of the James Bulger case in the UK in the 90s. There is a plot twist that I predicted, however there was one little thing right at the end that surprised me. This would be a good book for a book club.

So many mixed thoughts on this one. I have been interested in how the uk system treats child criminals for some time and so the premise of this was interesting to me. It was well written, undeniably creepy with a couple of twists I didn‘t see coming. BUT and it‘s a big one for me the echo of the James Bulger case were too loud and jarring for me to claim this was an enjoyable read.

wordzie Nice review 5y
BookwormM I had exactly the same problem I think a younger audience who didn‘t live through the Bulger case may be able to enjoy it. 5y

Being from the UK, this book stirred memories of the James Bulger murder (although it was 2 boys in that case). This is an excellent book about an emotive subject, but it lost a star as the ending to me felt too abrupt, & it left me disappointed after the rest of the book. 4🌟

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Bloomsbury Publishing / Raven Books, for the opportunity to review an ARC.

This was a rather disturbing book - not graphic, but there is some description of the murdered child. I don‘t think I could read it if it was violent because of the fact that there is a child involved. It has echoes of the Jamie Bulger case (Brits will probably remember this). And an unresolved ending, which was a real eye opener - I definitely loved that bit!

I really liked this creepy atmospheric thriller about two women who were involved in a violent crime as children. It brings up questions about nature/nurture and morality in general. My full review is on my blog now if you feel like reading! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping tale of suspense. It‘s very much a page turner where the question of ‘is it nature or nurture‘ springs to mind. To me this tale read quite like a horror story at times, or even an episode from ‘Tales of the Unexpected‘, especially as I began to realise that all was not as it seemed. This is a cracking read which held my attention throughout, right until the chilling end.

A psychological thriller that covers child murder, so can be an emotive read but it‘s ultimately a thriller. Alice Clark-Platts has the tension building slowly, gradually, more and more, until the marvellously, surprising and startling end. I loved this and can thoroughly recommend it....read it now before the spoilers
