This is a great sequel to dragons in a bad and I love how the story picked up where the previous left off. This book is perfect for elementary students who have an interest in this theme.

This is one of the books for the #globalreadaloud and I really enjoyed it. Geared toward early middle grades. It‘s urban fantasy and it really struck me when the author said “magic only happened if you lived in a certain area”. So she did something about it. Jax meets Ma and she takes him along on an errand she has to do. This errand involves dragons, dinosaurs, an invisible man, and time travel. I‘m definitely listening to the sequel!!!

I finished Dragons in a Bag and at this point it‘s a top contender for the grades 4-6 book club this summer. I still have a few more books to look into and I have to have my final decision by March 10th to get it in the summer events catalog.

Singing this book‘s praises! The nine-year-old protagonist is a boy from Brooklyn and all of the characters are people of color. The author, Zetta Elliott, is on a mission to bring fantasy stories to life for children of color to be able to see themselves wholly represented. The story is so charming and although it‘s a quick read, it covers a lot of ground. I want to read it with my fourth grade class! They‘ll find it so relatable as NYC kids 🗽

This was a total cover/title-grab, and it was delightful. Full of magic and adventure and dragons and genuinely interesting characters being genuinely kind and helpful and just, yes. Yes good. A+ for literally everything about this. Except the lack of closure at the end. There is /none/. I guess I'll be over here twiddling my thumbs waiting for the next one 🤔😂

Great early #middlegrade read with diverse characters and an urban fantasy setting. Jaxon is left with a family friend when his mom goes to fight their eviction notice. But Ma, the family friend, is secretive and standoffish, and her purse keeps moving on its own... There‘s a lot going on here, but the 160-page book never feels overcrowded. I wish there had been more closure, but the book sets up the upcoming series nicely! #kidlit #fantasy

This is a book for a young reader, which is not a genre I generally pick up. But it was in the npr notable books of 2018 list so I gave it a try. It was cute and I liked the way it dealt with magic.

Getting a bit of reading in while I wait for this laptop to reset.

My laptop's hard drive very suddenly died today. But my mom being the absolute wizard that she is, just produced a brand new laptop out of nowhere and saved the day. Being excited I began the resetting process like it wasn't 2am 😅 so I will be up for a bit.

Urban fantasy—with dragons!!!—for the middle grade set (ages 8-12). On her way to court to fight an eviction notice, Jax‘s mom drops him off at Ma‘s promising to pick him up at the end of the day. And what a day it turns out to be because Ma isn‘t just an elderly neighbor, she‘s a witch & she has a job to do. With a diverse, wonderful cast of characters, & magic is this world & beyond, this is a delightful fantasy for young readers.
