Just finished a mother‘s reckoning by Sue Klebold (if you‘re interested in the Columbine case give it a read. It‘s written by one of the killers (Dylan Klebold) mothers. Now going to start this change of heart by Jodi Picoult

This was my bookclub's pick for the month. I couldn't get into the story, but in the beginning it takes place in the prison where one of the main characters is being held before his death sentence.

pickThere is a lot going on in this book, primarily religion and the death penalty. I found some of the religion “debates” interesting. The “magic” portions reminded me a bit of “The Green Mile”; one of the prisoners at one point nicknamed Shay “Green Mile”, which I did think was kind of a fun way to address that. At the same time, these events made the book less realistic for me. I still quite enjoyed it, though.

bailedIch breche ab auf Seite 77. Wie schon gesagt, ist mir die Handlung diesmal zu hanebüchen und der dauernde Perspektivwechsel macht es mir auch nicht leichter, in die Geschichte hineinzufinden oder mich mit ihr anzufreunden.
Insgesamt erinnert mich das, was ich bisher gelesen habe, an „Die Wahrheit der letzten Stunde“ und ich finde, wenn ich mit dem Buch ohnehin nicht zurecht komme, brauche ich auch keine Geschichte „zweimal“ zu lesen. ??♀️
Vielleicht werde ich mit Shay doch noch warm. In diesem Kapitel wurde er nämlich zusehends interessanter. Ich sage nur: „Erdnüsse“ ?.
Und vielleicht macht es gar nichts, dass ich außer Lucius keinen der anderen Insassen unterscheiden kann.
„Ehrlich, Ich übertreibe nicht, wenn ich sage, dass wir gezwungen waren, den Duft – den wunderbaren Duft – stundenlang einzuatmen. Als ich um drei Uhr morgens wirklich wach wurde, war der Schokogeruch so stark, als hätte der Brownie in meiner Zelle gelegen statt in der von Shay. »Wieso isst du das blöde Ding nicht endlich«, murmelte ich.
»Weil», erwiderte Shay, offenbar so hellwach, wie ich »ich mich dann auf nichts mehr freuen könnte.« (Seite 54)
Knapp auf Seite 50 und das ist der erste PIcoult, von dem ich mir vorstellen kann, ihn nicht zu Ende zu lesen. Die Grundlage der Geschichte ist schon arg konstruiert. In meinen Augen bisher sogar total unrealistisch. 🙄
Wie kann das sein, dass, wenn in Büchern ein Partner stirbt, das entweder aufgrund einer schweren Krankheit oder wegen eines Autounfalls verursacht durch Alkohol am Steuer, passiert. ?
In us-amerikanischen Geschichten gefühlt noch häufiger als in deutschen.
An was anderem sterben die Leute nicht, oder wie❓ Nur an den Ursachen von 2,2 ‰ Alkohol im Blut. Nerv.
Naaa, wie weit bin ich darin gestern gekommen❓ Richtig, ich hab gar nicht mehr zu lesen angefangen. 😊🤭
Wenn ich absolut unschlüssig bin, was ich lesen will, aber etwas suche, von dem ich weiß, dass es nicht packen wird, dann geht Jodi Picoult immer. ☺️
Von diesem Roman hier weiß ich inhaltlich nichts, nur, dass ich ihn im letzten Jahr auf einen Bücher Flohmarkt erstanden habe.
Lasset denSpaß beginnen, auch wenn ich ganz genau weiß, dass ich heute damit nicht mehr sehr weit kommen werde. ✨?
so-soI feel like I've had a string of so-so books lately. The method in which the audio book was presented was super cool, each chapter is from the viewpoint of one of 5 characters, each character is performed by a different "actor." I loved hat about it. Like listening to a play, but the plot was so close to that of The Green Mile, it felt ripped off.
So I'm listening to this one and it's actually being read by at least 3 different people which is cool, but is this just a lighter more uplifting Green Mile? Or do I just need to be more patient with it?

Der #MannMeinesVertrauens kennt mich gut. Denn _das_Buch_ hat _er_ gestern in den Büchermarkt-Kisten entdeckt. Als er mir das Buch liebevoll unter die Nase gehalten hat, "musste" ich es natürlich mitnehmen.
Ich bin gespannt, glaube aber nicht, dass ich zwei Picoults hintereinander lesen werde. Was wohl weniger an Jodi Picoult liegt als an Leihfrist-Zwängen. ?
pickI love Jodi Picoult's novels. They always touch my heart. I would say it was a story of life and death in so many senses. The main characters had flaws, they were judged and judges. They were weak and strong. I will read this again in the future. Jodi's books will always have a home on my bookcases.
pick"Would you give up vengeance against someone you hate if it meant saving someone you love?" Like so many of Picoult's books, Change of Heart is full of controversy and ethical dilemma, in this case, capital punishment, organ donation, throw in a hefty mix of religion, molestation and some injustice. JP consistently writes in a manner that forces me to question things and reflect, and that is why I appreciate her books, regardless of the topic
I have so many Jodi books as y'all can tell!! This is the only book I have with any #shapeinthetitle ❤️❤️

pickI absolutely LOVED this book. I love how Picoult really makes you think. Things are never as black and white as they may seem.
