Review: https://scepticalreading.com/2021/06/whys-there-a-pirate-ship-on-the-cover/

Why is there a picture of a ship on the cover? Especially an artfully carved one that immediately reminded me of the TV series Black Sails, and hence of pirates. Not to mention the title of the book being the name of the ship, yet most of the story doesn‘t even take place on the ship. I was definitely blindsided by the cover. Shame on me!

LibrarianRyan oh no. I bought this book for the cover! 3y
julesG @LibrarianRyan Truly been wondering why the cover doesn't fit the story. Nor the title of the book. 3y
LibrarianRyan @julesG That is one of my biggest pet peeves in books!! 3y

An enjoyable read. Definitely more romance driven than I was expecting, however I do like the reinterpretation of the world in this alternate universe. Sometimes the secondary plot, which might actually be the main plot, got lost due to the romantic machinations going on.

This book was sold as a retelling of the Odyssey but a more accurate description would be The Bachelorette at Sea featuring the blandest heroine you‘ve ever met and tons of Insta-Love.

Picked this up in a small bookstore when I crossed Virginia off my list, and I‘m not upset about it one bit. Apparently the author also works at that bookstore, which makes it even more special. Like “The Selection” at sea. Selah has good character development, and I loved all the brothers of Asgard.

I definitely chose this book because of the cover. Then I was pleased to see a ton of DC area references (apparently the author lives in the DMV). But I never totally got into the book.

I could not put this book down. Selah is a character with knowing. She and her crew were wonderful to follow, and I want the next book now! An exciting, engrossing fantasy... I highly recommend it.

Ugggggggggh okay so I thought this was a standalone but apparently not.

The cover is GORGEOUS
The mc isn't a stupid damsel until the very end
The plot is incredibly predictable
The ending was so damn unsatisfying even with a sequel to come
The first romance was better than the second #facts
I'll probably read the sequel if my library gets a copy of it

I've heard pretty mixed reviews on this but I'm home sick so I might as well give it a go.

This hooked me right from the start, which i honestly didnt think it would. I was pleasantly surprised to love the characters, and as i watched the story unfold i couldnt believe it was over so soon. Eagerly awaiting the sequel for this, the author is definitely one to keep an eye on!

I feel a bit 'meh' about this book - it was a quick and easy read and the developing relationships were entertaining but it's very hard for me to really get into a book when I just don't like the main character. Selah is supposed to be the ruler of her country soon but she acts nothing like it. She was much too naive and passive for my taste. Also the world-building was kind of confusing. I did love that it was partly set in Norway, though...

GlassAsDiamonds Have to get to this! SOOOO far behind on Fairyloot books! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂🤦🏻‍♀️😂🤦🏻‍♀️ 5y
LauraWeasley @GlassAsDiamonds Believe me, I know the feeling! The readalongs have helped me stay on track, though. I always seem to have trouble picking my next read so when a readalong is scheduled that's one less decision for me. 😂 I'm not too active in the discussions but it still keeps me motivated. I have quite a few FairyLoot books from before they started the readalongs, though... 🙈 5y
GlassAsDiamonds @LauraWeasley I keep missing them (the read alongs!!). Must try harder/plan this month 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 If you want to do a buddy read of .... most books before they started the actual readalongs (🤦🏻‍♀️), so let me know!! My Fairyloot TBR pile is quite ridiculous !! 😂🤦🏻‍♀️😂🤦🏻‍♀️😂 5y

LauraWeasley @GlassAsDiamonds That sounds great, actually! 😊 Do you have a specific FairyLoot book in mind that you've been meaning to read? 5y
GlassAsDiamonds @LauraWeasley ahh... dealers choice? Perhaps Even the Darkest Stars but I have an embarrassment of riches of unread Fairyloot books so if there‘s one you‘re more interested in, let‘s do this thing!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 5y
LauraWeasley @GlassAsDiamonds This is perfect because Even the Darkest Stars is actually the one I had in mind! 😁 5y
GlassAsDiamonds @LauraWeasley ha! Cool! Then maybe Girls of Paper and Fire? How shall we do this? (Haven‘t organised a buddy read before!!! 😂😂😂) 5y
LauraWeasley @GlassAsDiamonds Me neither! 🙈 I guess we just decide when we want to start reading and then talk about the book! 😁 Either when we're finished or we could divide the book into sections, like 50 pages a day or something... That's how FairyLoot does it as well. Speaking of FairyLoot, they're doing the readalong for Sorcery of Thorns next week, so maybe we should start when that's over? And maybe you want to join that, too? ☺️ 5y
LauraWeasley @GlassAsDiamonds I've already read Girls of Paper and Fire. 😬 I think that was the first readalong FairyLoot ever hosted... 5y
GlassAsDiamonds Aannnndddd I‘m already behind 😂🤦🏻‍♀️😂🤦🏻‍♀️😂 MUST CATCH UP! And yes! Even The Darkest Stars the week after 😊😊😊 5y
LauraWeasley @GlassAsDiamonds Urgh, me too! I often fall behind during the week, especially when work is as exhausting as it is right now... 🙈 But mostly I manage to catch up on the weekends. 💪 5y
LauraWeasley @GlassAsDiamonds Alright, should we give this a go? Or is it not a good time for you? If you wanna wait that's totally cool, too - it's not like I haven't got a ton of other books that are waiting to be read... 😂 5y

I got this one in the may fairyloot box and I really liked it. The story might be a bit predictable at times but it's fun to read and a book to get lost in. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

sander1095 I'm very glad you enjoyed it! 5y
Crazeedi Hey there! I sent a note to your gram, did she receive? 5y
mellissimo @Crazeedi Sorry! Yes, we both have received your letters. She was really excited about it. My reply will go out this weekend, I don't know if hers maybe is already on the way. Thank you for helping me with this surprise. It means a lot to me 😁❤ 5y

I really liked this book! It pulled me in from the start with Selah being sent to sea on The Beholder to find a suitable match. The story focuses on the first two stops and Selah‘s wish to gain a fiancé from one in order to come back quickly to her ailing father. I was surprised to fall for both; they were endearing and full of their own plot twists – well done! The book ends placing the story in an entirely different direction. Bring on book 2!

This book had really good potential, but unfortunately it wasn‘t executed well. The concept was really interesting but it meant that it was difficult to fall for characters or become attached to the romance aspect of it.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

🌿 First post, yay! 🌿
My current read is The Beholder, the Fairyloot book of the month for May. I‘m only about a 100 pages in but I‘m enjoying it so far - we‘ll see how I feel when I get further into the book. I must say it is nice to have a ‘lighter‘ read after reading a series of quite heavy, adult books. Also who doesn‘t like fairytale inspired stories?

LibrarianRyan @SaturnDoo depends. I know nothing about the book. If it‘s a regency read it fits. I really want to see the final version. 6y
