My Year of Running Dangerously
My Year of Running Dangerously: A Dad, a Daughter, and a Ridiculous Plan | Tom Foreman
CNN correspondent Tom Foreman's remarkable journey from half-hearted couch potato to ultra-marathon runner, with four half-marathons, three marathons, and 2,000 miles of training in between; a poignant and warm-hearted tale of parenting, overcoming the challenges of age, and quiet triumph. As a journalist whose career spans three decades, CNN correspondent Tom Foreman has reported from the heart of war zones, riots, and natural disasters. He has interviewed serial killers and been in the line of fire. But the most terrifying moment of his life didn't occur on the job--it occurred at home, when his 18-year old daughter asked, "How would you feel about running a marathon with me?" At the time, Foreman was approaching 51 years old, and his last marathon was almost 30 years behind him. The race was just sixteen weeks away, but Foreman reluctantly agreed. Training with his daughter, who had just started college, would be a great bonding experience, albeit a long and painful one. My Year of Running Dangerously is Foreman's journey through four half-marathons, three marathons, and one 55-mile race. What started as an innocent request from his daughter quickly turned into a rekindled passion for long-distance running--for the training, the camaraderie, the defeats, and the victories. Told with honesty and humor, Foreman's account captures the universal fears of aging and failure alongside the hard-won moments of triumph, tenacity, and going further than you ever thought possible.

I‘m a sucker for running books anyway, but this one is so fun! I listened on audio and it was like one long, sweet, funny running podcast.

I just LOVE running books. Here‘s the thing about us runners, we all love running. Otherwise we couldn‘t torture our bodies the way we do. So reading about someone else‘s journey, even the run of the mill runner as Tom Foreman is, is inspiring. He helped get me through 26.2 miles on my own journey to a PR.

I figured out readathon TBRs and I don't get along. This makes book 5 that I'm reading for #24in48 but only 1/5 was from the original TBR 😜This book is light, self deprecating, and a delight on audio. I will still never run a marathon but it's fun listening to other people talk about running theirs!

While I didn't finish A Study in Charlotte, I did finish this on audio on the ride. It was a great mix of humor, facts about running and challenging yourself physically while learning about yourself and your family relationships ❤️. It made this 48 year old bookworm nurse almost want to get off the couch and start running (almost) 😜

Never a book I thought I would read (listen to) but I must say I'm loving it! The author narrates so that makes it even better. So good!

The author's hilarious self-deprecating style really sets this book from other running memoirs I've read. At points he seems to be describing himself as someone who achieves greatness because he is too dumb to quit. Inspiring and fun read.

As people get older, life becomes all about playing it safe...but along the way, you can lose yourself.

You have to reach far down to find that delightful slice of zen that comes only when you breathe deeply, your thighs burn, and your heart thunders.
