The Second Sex (Vintage Feminism Short Edition)
The Second Sex (Vintage Feminism Short Edition) | Simone de Beauvoir
Vintage Feminism: classic feminist texts in short form WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY NATALIE HAYNES When this book was first published in 1949 it was to outrage and scandal. Never before had the case for female liberty been so forcefully and successfully argued. De Beauvoirs belief that One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman switched on light bulbs in the heads of a generation of women and began a fight for greater equality and economic independence. These pages contain the key passages of the book that changed perceptions of women forever.

I do this all the time!!

pgh.femme I have been working hard to edit this kind of wording from emails at work. I absolutely know what I‘m talking about so there is no need for this sort of dodge yet I do it repeatedly 6y

A bit late but I'm starting my first paper back for #booktubeathon today. I finished my first audiobook this morning 😊 I was really hoping to do the 7 books but it's not looking likely. I had a friend visiting overnight so no reading then and I'm now going away for the weekend so it's unlikely I'll read then either. Oh well, I'll read what I can and complete some of the other tasks 😊 There's always next year 📚

And finally these guys are on the coffee table. The Second Sex arrived in the post last week and just hasn't been put away yet. I'm reading The Philosopher's Stone at the moment for my reread series and I picked up The Scarlet Letter to read for the podcast series i'm planning.

Really interesting read, as I was reading it I had to keep reminding my self that this was published in 1949 and to try and imagine how groundbreaking this would have been. #feministbookshelfcollection

Giving thanks and paying respects to Simone de Beauvoir ❤️ ~Montparnasse Cemetery

rustoryhuf A few years ago I found the Poet's Corner in Westminster and was thrilled. All those authors, gathered in one place. Glad I'm not the only one who likes to pay respects at the final resting place. 7y

How appropriate; today I started reading The Second Sex, my friend invited me to go to the especial events in the Catalonia National Museum celebrating International Women's Day and "Sister Suffragette" from Mary Poppins just started playing from my playlist. #InternationalWomensDay2017 ????‍?

Oh, I haven't posted (or even read) much this last month. A lot of things going on, but I'm trying to get back on track.

#SeasonsReadings2016 Step one: Finish all these books that I meant to finish in November. Step 2: If anything is left of the month, decide whether to move on to more books I meant to have read already or just pick guilty pleasures as the whim takes me. #WanttoreadinDec

New month, new photo ops. These are some of my #NovemberTBR Going for a bit of a #NonfictionNovember but I also have plenty more fiction lined up on the kindle and ordered from the library. Good thing I've started a couple of these already. #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading

I like this quote. Just started reading a copilation of extracts from Beauvoir's 'The Second Sex'. You can find this line within the first four pages. However I stopped to think about it. I like how, to my undertanding, it means that someone is not a women because of their gender but rather because of the use of the word itself. #feminism #feministquotes

Visited this feminist bookstore while in Madrid a week ago. Sadly, they are on break for the entire month of August. I didn't realize bookstores could also go on summer break. Possibly only in Madrid. Libreria Mujeres.

Hooked_on_books Thanks for the link--I'm getting both! 8y
BookishFeminist Got my woman card yesterday too 💁🏻 8y
Sassy_Steph How did you guys get the woman card and the woman deck? 8y

BookishFeminist @Sassy_Steph I don't know if the woman card is still available (I think it was limited time) but if so its in Hillary Clinton's official campaign shop on her website! 8y
BookishFeminist @Sassy_Steph Woman Card is only $5 if they still have it! The back is delightfully sassy :) 8y
Yossarian @Sassy_Steph yes, a few weeks ago Trump accused Clinton of playing "the woman card," and she used it as a fundraising opportunity. Although, now that I think about it, it was probably such a long wait because the product couldn't even have existed when I bought it. 8y
Susannah My woman card came yesterday too! So glad to be bona fide. 😄 I heard they were still available on the campaign website shop last week. 8y
Autumnscribe Ordered mine this morning! Can't wait. Thanks for the info. 8y
