Excellent book about Little Women. The four writers each picked one of the Little Women, Meg, Jo, Beth, or Amy and wrote about her own life, and how it coincided with the life of the sister she chose. The life of each sister was analyzed in comparison to the lives of contemporary women. Fascinating to see how their lives and times compared to ours and how much women‘s lives have changed in the last hundred years. Highly recommended.

My 1st ever attempt to listen to an #audiobook was... ok. I knew from experience listening to podcasts that I‘d be very picky about the reader‘s voice. It was a good experiment and I‘ll be repeating it for my commutes home from work at the very least.

Four authors wrote four essays, one for each March sister. A bit repetitive, but all had interesting takes on the characters. Mostly just made me wish I were rereading Little Women instead though.

I actually found myself quietly thrilled while reading these fresh and personal takes on the March sisters of Little Women. My favorites were Kate Bolick, author of Spinster, on Meg and our relationship with clothing and Carmen Maria Machado, author of Her Body and Other Parties, on Beth and illness and how we and others narrate our lives. A wonderful fresh look at Little Women, perfect for following a reread before the new film adaptation!

A thoughtful little book of four essays - four writers explore their own reactions to first reading about the March sisters (of Little Women) and how they now see each character‘s role and motivations. A dash of sociology, a little Alcott history, a touch of personal memoir - it‘s an amuse bouche for Alcott fans! You learn more about how each of the four writers see the world than anything else - but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, I found this essay collection, pretty superficial. A little disappointing, with some of the authors that were part of this.

Always love to read anything about Little Women.

The four essays are well written, although quite different from each other as a whole they are profound, heartfelt, and amusing. I loved how each writer drew on her own personal connections with Louisa May Alcott's classic. Each taking on a different March sister and reflecting on moments throughout the book that stood out while weaving in their personal history and connections with their subject and the novel itself. Out August 27th!
