pickI chose this for the “Athlete” prompt not only because the author played sports in high school and college, but because she was a fighter. Mallory Smith valiantly battled cystic fibrosis until the very end. This book includes excerpts of the journal she kept for 10 years until her death at 25. The editing is choppy but the writing itself is powerful.

This is not perfect. The style of real journal entries is not my favorite. But this book is probably more personal to me than any other book could be.
This is Mallory‘s story, moving, inspiring and terribly sad. It‘s also a story that is so very close to home for me, I almost didn‘t read it. But it‘s the first time I‘ve had the opportunity to read about a CF sufferer, a condition that my hubby also has. So I had to..⬇️

I‘ve heard such amazing things about this posthumously published memoir. Mallory Smith suffered from CF, the same condition as my husband has... which is why I bought it. But I just read the back blurbs, and the inside flap, and not sure if I‘m up to it......

Many entries dive deeply into medical minutia and others are trivial. The overall affect that is. Being sought, of a complete picture of a complete life is not quite achieved. It feels crappy to not give all the thumbs up to a book about a woman who struggled ...
