I really liked this middle grade book. I never felt like I clicked with my friends, thought I was stuck following them. This would‘ve been nice to have. Story encourages Olive through not clicking with any of her many friend cliqué she is able to find what she wants. Book tackles her disappointment not being asked to join anybody. Then worry when she does and decides to do her own thing. And it appear to work out.

Similar to Smile, Real Friends, and Nat Enough, but enjoyable in its own right, this MGGN focuses on Olive as the fifth graders prepare for their variety show. Everybody has ideas for their groups, but nobody includes Olive. Upset at first, Olive then is inspired to make her own way. Sometimes the problem isn‘t having no friends, but having lots of friends but no best friend. It puts a little different spin on this genre.

My double spin was a free space so I am assigning it to finally read this fancy edition of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde & Other Tales for #rereadtheclassics I grabbed this one at bookpeople on my birthday 2 years back and this buddy read is a great excuse to get to it.

Cute, relatable book for Telgemeier fans… or anyone who‘s ever felt left out. Did you not get picked when it was group project time?
