There were two subjects which lonely widower Edward de Salis never discussed: his dead wife and his family home in Ireland, 'matchless Cashelmara'. So when he meets Marguerite, a bright young American with whom he can talk freely about both, he is able to love again and takes her back to Ireland as his wife. But Marguerite soon discovers that married life is not what she expected, and that she has married into a troubled family bitterly divided by love and hatred. Cashelmara becomes the curse of three generations as they play out their fates in a spellbinding drama, which moves inexorably towards murder and retribution.

Pickpick

60-year-old Englishman Edward DeSalis marries 18-yo Marguerite, an American girl he meets during a trip to the states just prior to the civil war. He owns several homes but the one she likes the least is Cashelmara, a great estate in Ireland. The story begins with Edward then Marguerite and continues to be told by their descendants and their significant others. This is an epic story (700+ pages) of the DeSalis family that suffers some tragic ⬇️

Texreader acts, including murders of both good and evil characters. At the same time the early English generation treats the Irish in much the way one would expect—as lesser people, mere peasants—although that viewpoint changes significantly over time. There‘s also some Scottish characters and how they are seen by the English and the Irish is very interesting. This is quite the saga. Very long but certainly kept my interest throughout. #foodandlit #Ireland 2d

I‘ve been listening to Celtic music all month for #Ireland #foodandlit except when listening to this book. 11+ hours to go. @Catsandbooks

BooksandCoffee4Me The first time I heard “Wild Mountain Thyme,” I fell in love with it. James Taylor does a beautiful rendition, as does Glen Frye of the Eagles! 6d
