A June of Ordinary Murders: A Mystery | 
pickThe protagonist of this great mystery, Sergeant Joe Swallow, is a complex interesting character and I look forward to reading the later titles in the series. In the midst of the worst heatwave on record, Dublin prepares for Victoria‘s Golden Jubilee; two women have been murdered and dissidents threaten the festivities. Swallow believes the two murders are linked and that the unrest is related but some superiors want his investigation stopped.
In June,1887,the city of Dublin experiences an unprecedented heat wave,bodies of a murdered man & child are discovered in a park,Queen Victoria‘s Jubilee has city police on alert,Irish nationalism & violence erupts.The city‘s grittiness & impoverished neighborhoods contrast with upper class opulent streets.Say Nothing was with me as I read this; point of view from the complex Detective Swallow, whose job is under Royal jurisdiction, investigates.
