Lost
Lost | Gregory Maguire
A brilliant, perceptive, and deeply moving fable. Boston Sunday Globe Publishers Weekly calls Gregory Maguires Lost a deftly written, compulsively readable modern-day ghost story. Brilliantly weaving together the literary threads of J.M. Barries Peter Pan, Charles Dickenss A Christmas Carol, and the Jack the Ripper stories, the bestselling author of The Wicked Years canon creates a captivating fairy tale for the modern world. With Lost, Maguirewho re-imagined a darker, more dangerous Oz, and inspired the creation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway blockbuster Wickeddelivers a haunting tale of shadows and phantoms and things going bump in the night, confirming his reputation as one of contemporary fictions most assured myth-makers (Kirkus Reviews).

@Cosmos_Moon

Cosmos_Moon Oooh! Cambodia! Awesome! Have fun with your nephew 🥰 Is Lost the series based on this book? 4y
LibrarianRyan @Cosmos_Moon Not at all. A lady at work is reading lost for the Popsugar series. this is a “retelling“ (I use that term very loosly) that mixes the Grim Reaper with A Christmas Carol. It's convoluted and hard to keep track of what is going on. 4y
Cosmos_Moon @LibrarianRyan Oooooo! Cool! 4y

Bailedbailed

😕I was promised “A Christmas Carol” meets...something else, I don‘t remember. I wanted something Christmasy, and Maguire is known for his retellings, so I gave this a try. But it‘s not a retelling of Dickens‘s classic. I just got bored and couldn‘t understand the main character‘s motivations. So I‘m on the hunt for good Christmas books. Any suggestions?

Rachbb3 I'm reading this right now and it's really good. 6y
LibrarianRyan This book was so bad. dickens mixed with the Grimm reaper. I was lost in lost. And not in the good fun way. His book Matchless is a much better holiday tale. He take the little match girl (safer holiday story ever) and gives it a continuation that was wonderful. 6y
LibrarianRyan Oh, and for brainless and short fun the following 3. 6y

Jess_Read_This I just read his Hiddensee and though decent, it wasn‘t a Christmas frame of mind book. After reading your review, I‘m convinced he can‘t write a good Christmas book! 😂 6y
MayginReads His book matchless felt a bit Christmas-y to me, but it's not a true Christmas story. I find that a bit annoying. I just read The Deal of a Lifetime and I expected Christmas, but the events just occurred at Christmas. Lost is my least favorite Maguire book. I nearly bailed myself. 6y
readinginthedark @Rachbb3 That sounds cute! 6y
readinginthedark @LibrarianRyan Thanks for the suggestions! 6y
readinginthedark @Jess_Read_This Yeah, I have that one but haven‘t read it yet; I‘ve heard mixed reviews. Luckily, I found a ton of Christmas books on Overdrive through my library, so I should have enough to fill December! 6y
readinginthedark @MayginReads Good to know! I‘m keeping an open mind on genres, so not sure what I‘ll end up with! 6y
silentrequiem This one is my favorite! 6y
readinginthedark @silentrequiem I‘ve read the Baum and enjoyed it. The other one sounds cute! Thanks! 6y

This one also looks fantastic. #LibraryWishlist

Have any of my fellow Littens read this book? Would you recommend? Please let me know. ☺️

quirkyreader This ties in with some of the stories written by Charles Dickens. 7y
Schlinkles Its ok, not my favorite of Gregory Maguire‘s. 7y
AshleyHoss820 It's been a while, but I've read it! I preferred Mirror, Mirror or Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, but I liked this one. 7y
MayginReads It's fine, but it's not my favorite Maguire. His other retellings are much better. This one was strange. 7y

Question: What do you do when you have the apartment to yourself? 🤔

Answer: Make an honest attempt to organize all the books (with some lovely wine to help, of course 🍷) 🤓

Not pictured: The rest of the books still on the shelves. 😓

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I see some great books in there. Too bad we don't live in a physically closer community so we could all book club or loan our books to each other.🤔. Anyway....I hope you had good luck, sometimes when I do that it goes very well, sometimes it's worse than when I started! LOL (edited) 7y
minkyb A noble endeavor! 7y
JPeterson @Riveted_Reader_Melissa That would be amazing if we all did! I can just imagine all the tbr lists, going even more out of control. 😂 7y
JPeterson I got all the books to actually fit on the shelves, so I consider that a success. Even though there isn't any rhyme or reason to order. 👍 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @minkyb 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JPeterson That's great in and of itself! You can always play with order later, fitting is a huge win! 7y
