Wildly interesting but wish I could convey why.

If you are a whiskey drinker you'll really enjoy this informative "all about whiskey" Audible original which is enthusiastically narrated by Ken Alba, who has authored 25 books about food and is a professor at the University of Pacific.

The history of bourbon in America is a fascinating. This was a fun lesson and I learned a lot about one of my favorite beverages.

Maker‘s Mark is my go-to but I like to dabble. Can‘t find my scotch. Oh-oh!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Written and performed by history professor, and food writer, Ken Albala, this lecture series is a quick dip into the divine amber liquid. As a Kentucky native 🥃🏇🏻 - and admittedly novice bourbon drinker - this was fun: history, science, marketing, production, popular culture. What‘s not to enjoy? A post-pandemic jaunt up to bourbon country is in order.

Not in the Litsy database, but *is* in GR, so I‘m counting it.

Daisey I‘m be been listening to this and enjoying it as well. 4y
britt_brooke @Daisey It‘s really interesting! 4y
wanderinglynn Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I am looking forward to listening to this one. 4y

Crysboehne Kentucky girl here too! Grew up in Western KY but also lived in Bardstown for many years. Ah, I miss my sweet Kentucky. 💙 4y
britt_brooke @BestDogDad It‘s a beautiful state, especially in thoroughbred and bourbon country! 4y
britt_brooke @Crysboehne 💙💙 I‘m from Paducah, but haven‘t lived there in 18 years. My family is still there and it‘ll always be “home.” 4y
Twainy I picked this one up too! 😁 4y
Crysboehne @britt_brooke I went to Murray State!! And I love Paducah. 4y
Megabooks Glad you enjoyed it too! 🥃 4y

As a Kentuckian, bourbon history interests me. I was living in Louisville as all the small distilleries came to prominence. The author supposes that the craft bourbon market is coming to a close. 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️

Before we get to that, he starts in the Middle Ages & distilling as alchemy. He follows it to Scotch and Irish whisky and then over to the Ohio Valley and bourbon in the US from the whiskey rebellion to prohibition to now. Free on audible 6/20

Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 4y
ValerieAndBooks Maker‘s Mark is my favorite bourbon whisky. Looks interesting! (edited) 4y

Megabooks My dad got it for the KY Chamber of Commerce‘s 60th anniversary. He served on the board. Maker‘s was my favorite too when I drank. I didn‘t often drink bourbon but I liked Manhattans. 4y
Sace My daughter lives in Lexington and the last time we visited we toured the Woodford distillery. I'm not a drinker but the rooms where casks sat to age smelled wonderful. 4y
Megabooks @Sace oh yes, they‘re lovely. We have several spirits made in my hometown, but what I love the most about it are the Victorian homes down near the rick houses/river that were once owned by the distillery owners. They‘re just beautiful! 4y
LeahBergen Mmmm... Manhattans! 🍹 4y
Megabooks @LeahBergen 👍🏻👍🏻 4y
britt_brooke I grabbed this a few days ago, but haven‘t listened yet. 4y
Megabooks @britt_brooke I think you‘ll enjoy it. Nerd out a bit 😁😁 4y
CarolynM Love a good bourbon - Woodford Reserve or Knob Creek for preference. A visit to the distilleries was supposed to be happening next year. Oh well... 4y
Megabooks @CarolynM would love to have you still visit Kentucky someday! The area through the Bourbon Trail is beautiful. Just don‘t let anyone talk you into a mint julep. Not a fan! 😂 4y

This is exactly what I wanted to know. While he did debunk certain conspiracies, notably the JFK assassination, his focus was more on the groupthink and individual cognitive biases that promote conspiracy theories.

He also talked about types of conspiracy theories including true conspiracies, like big pharma (OxyContin) and Lincoln‘s assassination.

Overall, I‘ve really enjoyed both Great Courses that I‘ve tried. 4⭐️

Megabooks @BarbaraBB @Meaw_catlady @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick thanks for the love for my new profile pic!! 😘💖 5y
Megabooks Could I use this for Serbia because there‘s over half a chapter on the assassination of the Archduke? @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle I‘m not sure?? 5y
Librarybelle If you want to use it for Serbia, go for it! Some countries are harder to find than others, so work the challenge however you would like! 😁 5y

Megabooks @Librarybelle okay, I‘ll count it! #readingeurope2020 #serbia (just to make it official for my records! 😁👍🏻 5y
BarbaraBB I completely agree with @Librarybelle ! Some countries are hard to find! However I do think you mean Franz Ferdinand? He was killed in Sarajevo which is in Bosnia, not Serbia. I don‘t want to be a wise ass and maybe your chapter is set in Serbia but just saying 🤷🏻‍♀️😘 (edited) 5y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB yes, omg, I feel so silly!! They kept on talking about the Serbian plot to assassinate him and I know all the country lines in that area have changed a lot over the years, but you are 110% correct about Sarajevo, and I don‘t have one for #Bosnia right now either. Whoops!! 😩🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 5y
charl08 In case useful - this publisher only do Balkan and SE European lit in translation. Might help find a Bosnian or Serbian book? http://istrosbooks.com/ I've recently read one from Slovenia that I loved, and one from Croatia that I'm a bit more ambivalent about. Good luck with the test of your challenge! 5y
BarbaraBB Don‘t feel silly, it is pretty confusing and very far away for you. I‘ve visited both countries so I know a bit more but it makes complete sense you confuse them! 5y

I had never taken an #audible great course, but I loved this! It‘s ten 20-30 min lectures: the first few refresh your physics, then you get into the realm of sci fi. Everything from ST to SW to Dr Who. She took my favorite concepts, such as faster than light travel, and talked about the methods from an UTD physics perspective. I have a special fondness for the multiverse and loved that lecture! Must listen for fans.🖖🏻

Megabooks #nutsinmay “book” 8/9!! Give me incentives and I rise! 😂 @Andrew65 5y
