Great 1940s crime classic. I had seen the movie years ago but forgotten almost everything about it. Laura isn't quite the femme fatale type you'd imagine from the cover, which I think speaks to how any little bit of independence and sexual freedom on the part of a woman gets misinterpreted as licentiousness and coldness.
This is a good classic mystery filled with unreliable narrators. Since I love the movie, I knew the plot and that spoiled some of the twists. I could see the movie laid out scene by scene as I was reading. #ReadWithMrBook #1WordTitle

It's a cold, dark and windy afternoon here. I've shoveled the driveway and done everything else I needed to. So now it's time to snuggle in bed with my blanket and tea and start this book for #ReadWithMrBook until dinner. It's the basis for my favorite movie and I've never read it.
Nothing is as it seems in this feminist hard boiled noir, especially not the “femme fatale” Laura. A detective investigates the death of the eponymous Laura, looking into all possible suspects, including her fiancé and older male friend, all the while struggling not to fall in love with this specter of a woman.
Like most noir and hardboiled detective fictions, the story begins with the murder of a woman. Enters a detective who is assigned to the case but soon gets entangled in the web of lies surrounding the murder. This stylish noir-style detective novel is told in multiple first person narrators and has a 40s feminist vibe in New York City setting. Reading it feels like watching a black & white crime movie. There‘s a film adaptation too. #litsyclassics
This noir murder mystery is a wonderful pick. Without giving much away there is jealousy, a love affairs, a gumshoe detective, mistaken identity, and so much more! 😎
Starting this on audible next.
Watching the film on Netflix for #noirvember. I didn't realize it was a novel. My TBR wasn't long enough, right? 📚
