Book Mail....my TBR just got a bit taller !
After reading the summary and seeing it was co-written by Gillian Anderson, I expected to read an X-Files story. And it kinda was but one of the lesser episodes. It kept my interest but the ending was 'meh' and they did not convince me to read the next 2 books for the overarching story.
#FirstImpressions are misleading with this audiobook...though the audio performance is impeccable and initially engaging, the end devolves into implausible actions and characters that no longer feel authentic... maybe the next two books in the saga fill in the many holes here, but until the audio is on a deep discount, I will have to #AudioColor to something else! #150PnPCoverParty @CrowCAH @LeahBergen
So I bailed about 3/4 of the way through this. I think I could have made it to the end, but life is too short... It started off so well - mysterious and gripping, but by half way through I felt it lacked substance and hadn‘t made any progression 😔
I enjoyed reading A Vision of Fire but to be truthfull if i put it down it didnt stay with me like a great book should it fell just short of being a really good read i didnt get hooked on the story line or characters they were just not quiet fully coloured in which close but just not quiet there.
I REALLY wanted to love this book because #GillianAnderson is my favorite but it was really painful. I won't finish this trilogy sadly. :(
Listening to Gillian Anderson read this was a pleasure - I miss her presence in my life.
But the story is trite, contrived, & incomplete as a standalone. It's shamelessly trying to ensnare me in a series - it's obvious early on that all the threads will not be woven together by the end. And it's not good enough for me to overlook all the plot holes. So this is a one-and-done for me.
Forget about a reading slump - my reading has been on fire this year. But my writing... Not so much. Gotta knock out some ARC reviews so I can continue to get them 😉. I'll let this finish while I type away...
Put on Titanic while I read a lil bit before bed. Kitteh is more interested in the movie than in what I'm reading at the moment!
Also: I just learned about this! I just got into the X-Files with my hubby and I didn't know that Agent Scully wrote books!!! This is not a drill, Littens! #tbroverload #theyonlyhavebooks1and3 #whodoesthat?
I present to you my Mulder and Scully Barbie (and Ken) dolls along with the complimentary alien and, quite honestly, a whole lot of dust.
Sorry not sorry for the X-Files spam this week. HAPPY BDAY TO GILLIAN ANDERSON, the role model I looked up to most as a kid while my mom let me stay up late and watch X-Files. She's an author of quirky science fiction thrillers now. The last of her EarthEnd Saga comes out this Sept. Scully is an awesome bookish character, often pictured with book & wine on her time off. Anderson is also in Neil Gaiman's upcoming adaption of American Gods! 👽👩💼
