The Summer Prince | 
pickThere isn‘t much cyberpunk out there for the YA crowd so I was pleasantly surprised to find this book really does fill an important niche. Art & technology collide in this tale of a vertical city in a futuristic Brazil where every year, a Summer King is selected and then, at the end of the year, sacrificed. Best friends June & Gil both fall in love with Enki, the new king, and the year that follows will be one not soon forgotten. A good read.
Next up is a YA cyberpunk novel which was long listed for the National Book Award in 2013.

pickMy favorite read for my dystopian class. Unique, creative, well written. I highly recommend this book. A new look at dystopian and I won't go back to the status quo.

pickThis was different kinds of beautiful. It offered a problematic matriarchy, diverse sexualities, revolution, and a welcome change in narrative landscape. Written with rich and beautiful prose, this YA will make you reconsider the genre.
pickJust finished listening to Alaya Dawn Johnson's Summer Prince. A matriarchal dystopia and a coming of age tale, and one where I was rooting for the doomed. 3 tissue ending.
so-soI was instantly drawn in by the premise of this book and thought that I would love it. The world was fascinating. The problem is that none of the characters are particularly likable, especially the main character, June, who is a spoiled brat in all senses of the word. I ended feeling very meh.
Okay, Litsy family. I need you all to hold me accountable - I feel like I have been struggling through this book and I just want to be done with it, but I'm too far through it to bail. I will finish it today so that I can move on with my audiobook life! Dishes to be done and laundry to fold!
Not really reading-related, but this happened on my audiobook walk tonight! I've completed these 500 miles since I started using Charity Miles last July and it was my goal to get to 500 miles before my 1 year hit. I hit it early! Started listening to this on my road trip today! So far, the story is interesting, but it is definitely stretching my world-building ability which is more difficult for me when listening as opposed to reading. The narration is great and I can't wait to dig more into this one!
