Woken Furies | Richard K. Morgan

"Mixing classic noir sensibilities with a searing futuristic vision of an age when death is nearly meaningless, Morgan returns to his saga of betrayal, mystery, and revenge, as Takeshi Kovacs, in one fatal moment, joins forces with a mysterious woman who may have the power to shatter Harlan's World forever. In a world where the real and virtual are one and the same and the dead can come back to life, the damsel in distress may be none other than the infamous Quellcrist Falconer, the vaporized symbol of a freedom now gone from Harlan's World. Kovacs can deal with the madness of AI. He can do his part in a battle against biomachines gone wild, search for a three-centuries-old missing weapons system, live with a blood feud with the yakuza, and even with the betrayal of people he once trusted. But when his relationship with 'the' Falconer brings him an enemy specially designed to destroy him, he knows it's time to be afraid. After all, the guy sent to kill him is himself: but younger, stronger, and straight out of hell." --

#doublespin done - I struggled with this - it felt way too long and every time I thought we were reaching a conclusion some other twist happened which just left me confused and bored. Which is a shame cos I really enjoyed the forest in this trilogy, and they‘ve just gotten progressively worse. Hey ho!

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 10mo

This is definitely the weakest of the trilogy and kind of a disappointing ending. I liked the setting, the new tech, and the overall story, but everything else was a let down comparatively. 2 separate plots mashed into one book, lots of casual misogyny (fridging is the whole basis for this book), an unoriginal religious angle, and an underused double sleeve. It feels like all my complaints in the first 2 books were dumped into this one. 3/5 ⭐️

This is the 3rd book in the Takeshi Kovacs books the spawned the Altered Carbon Netflix series. It's a better book than the middle second one and the main inspiration behind the 2nd season of the Netflix show. One more trilogy completed for me.

This third book dragged a bit. I still enjoyed the setting, but the story was weak.

The Takeshi Kovacs trilogy kicks off with Altered Carbon (coming soon to a Netflix near you) and takes place in a distant future where you can store your personality and upload it into the body of your choice.

In Woken Furies, book 3, Takeshi goes up against a younger and more ruthless copy of himself uploaded into a different body.

Each book in this trilogy is a different flavor of sci-fi. All are great. #MyOwnWorstEnemy #90sinJuly

SpeculativeFemale I had trouble getting into this series the first time, but I think I need to give it a second try. 7y
ReadingEnvy I think I heard they were making this into a series or movie and it would be pretty interesting since they could have a bunch of actors playing the main character... 7y
