Just finished this for my book group (#tbrread) and honestly, I liked most of it. I just had trouble with some parts regarding treatment mod animals and the use of a particular word by the author... but was otherwise an enjoyable (but maybe not terribly thought-provoking) read. Also- think I‘m doing well for #24b42020! #wintergames #teamnutcracker

I read this years ago. It is a delightful memoir. A pick, for sure... Kindle owners, you should buy it. You'll love it!

Kaye REALLY good. 6y

Starting this now. Hopefully I‘ll get a few chapters in before I fall asleep. Tomorrow is such a busy day I doubt I‘ll have anytime to read!

My favorite non-fiction would have to include these two memoirs by Haven Kimmel, who happens to be the same age as me. Funny and insightful! #MOREORLESS

Freefallinmissy I loved a girl named zippy, didn't know she had another book! Thanks :-) 7y

This book is nothing short of a warm hug. It's full of nostalgia, humor and perfectly imperfect people.

Trying out a tbr list this month. Just finished an intense psychological thriller and moving on to Zippy. This is a reread from years ago-trying to keep my reading varied and thoughtful 😊📚

LitHousewife This was the first book I reviewed on my blog back in 2007. I really enjoyed it. 7y

"I later discovered that in order to be a good athlete one must care intensely about what is happening with a ball, even if one doesn't have posession of it. This was ultimately my failure: my inability to work up a passion for the location of balls. "

This was a reread for me, for book club. Kimmel's memoir of her rural Indiana childhood is entertaining, relatable, irreverent, and often comical. While many parts are poignant, her technique of telling the story through her childhood eyes gives them a detached, realistic feel that makes the entire thing more relatable for me. My only complaint is the essay style--occasionally Kimmel repeats details she's already offered. #bookreview

Haven Kimmel can write her life! I love these two delightful memoirs, both of which brought and kept a smile on my face as I read them. #AugustOfPages #BooksThatMadeMeSmile #AugustPhotoChallenge @TheSpinecrackersBookClub
