If this little book haul isn‘t a reflection of my eclectic nonfiction tastes, I don‘t know what is. My kids got me a gift card to an indie bookstore for Christmas. But they‘re only open for sidewalk sales and it has been super cold and snowy this winter. So I finally took advantage of a lovely sunny day and safely went book shopping! #happybibliophage #bookhaul #safebookshopping #supportyourindiebookstore

Amiable “Hidden Valley Road” is excellent. 👍🏼 I‘m on hold at the library for “Between Two Kingdoms. “ Looking forward to your thoughts on the Ehrenreich book — I didn‘t know she had a new one out. 4y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Nice haul! And yes - Hidden Valley Road is really good. Enjoy! 4y
Nute Wonderful stack of books! I didn‘t know that Hidden Valley Road is out in paperback. I will purchase that book soon. I‘m more curious about Between Two Kingdoms, but I‘m not sure if I can experience the sadness that might be present in that story in my life right now. 4y

Post 2/2 The basement level boasts large historical, academic, and children's sections. Interspersed with the winding shelves are local art pieces and displays of local artifacts with historical notes. As if all this weren't enough there is a rare book room with all kinds of gorgeous old tomes (including the Daisy Miller pictured). AND an entire shop selling prints of lithograph and woodcut art where we got the top three pictures👇

Billypar And naturally, we got a sizable bookhaul: the top three are my fiancee's and the bottom three are mine. If you're ever even somewhat near Harrisburg, be sure to make the trek. I lived in Pennsylvania the first 24 years of my life and am just discovering this now 😃 6y

It's not uncommon for me to declare a new bookstore a favorite when I travel, but this time it's 100% true...the Midtown Scholar Bookstore in Harrisburg, PA is an incredible place.
You walk in and are greeted by a cafe and tables- pretty normal so far. Then you notice the wrap-around second floor with tables by wrought iron rails- you walk up the stairs and find shelves grouped by prominent authors & many other genre/subject categories👇

Billypar There's also a no screen-zone bench seating area and balcony with outdoor seating. A gorgeous mural depicting local scenes spans one wall. Coming back down the stairs, you notice a lower level (described in next post). 6y
merelybookish Looks gorgeous! 6y
