📚Sidney & 📺Sidney have long since parted ways. Which is a shame cause 📚Sidney, really all the characters, are more complex than 📺counterparts. 📚Sidney is middle-aged but still the rebel young vicar at heart. Still loves his whisky & jazz but now listens to Pink Floyd as well. I love his heart, his compassion, his vow to change his Church for the better. How could I not have known that Pink Floyd has a song called Grantchester Meadows? It was quiet the morning when we there. I guess mad cows and hippies only show up for Sidney🌻🐄🐝

The fifth instalment of the Grantchester Mysteries is very much a Pick from me.

I began reading this series because I was curious to see how a person of faith in late 20th century England would be portrayed. Would he be an object for ridicule? Would he be holier-than-thou? Wish-washy? Hateful?

But this series presents beautifully realised characters who struggle meaningfully and lovingly with the complexities of life.

My hedgehog socks feel very autumnal as I finish this surprisingly deep and thoughtful mystery.

This is my experience with drinking culture in a society in conflict. I've found it to be rarely fun and never relaxing.

I picture Sidney Chambers living in a little place like this with his faithful dog and his trusty curate.

Still working my way through this - short (ish) stories make for great bedtime reading. I do like Sidney - the best bits of the C of E!

We're well into the 1960s now - complete with hippies and cults.
