Bradbury Stories
Bradbury Stories: 100 of His Most Celebrated Tales | Ray Bradbury
For more than sixty years, the imagination of Ray Bradbury has opened doors into remarkable places, ushering us across unexplored territories of the heart and mind while leading us inexorably toward a profound understanding of ourselves and the universe we inhabit. In this landmark volume, America's preeminent storyteller offers us one hundred treasures from alifetime of words and ideas -- tales that amaze, enthrall, and horrify; breathtaking journeys backward and forward in time; classic stories with the undiminished power to tantalize, mystify, elate, and move the reader to tears. Each small gem in the master's collection remains as dazzling as when it first appeared in print. There is magic in these pages: the wonders of interstellar flight, a conspiracy of insects, the early bloom of love in the warmth of August. Both the world of Ray Bradbury and its people are vivid and alive, as colorfully unique as a poker chip hand-painted by a brilliant artist or as warmly familiar as the well-used settings on a family's dining room table. In a poor man's desire for the stars, in the twisted night games of a hateful embalmer, in a magnificent fraud perpetrated to banish despair and repair a future, in a writer's wonderful death is the glowing proof of the timeless artistry of one of America's greatest living bards. The one hundred stories in this volume were chosen by Bradbury himself, and span a career that blossomed in the pulp magazines of the early 1940s and continues to flourish in the new millennium. Here are representatives of the legendary author's finest works of short fiction, including many that have not been republished for decades, all forever fresh and vital, evocative and immensely entertaining. This is Bradbury at his very best -- golden visions of tomorrow, poetic memories of yesterday, dark nightmares and glorious dreams -- a grand celebration of humankind, God's intricate yet poignantly fallible machineries of joy.

My other tentative reading project of 2023 has been Ray Bradbury's 100 Selected Stories. Rather than reading works from beginning to end as I did with Dickinson, I have been dipping in at random throughout the year & ticking off the piece in the table of contents when finished. Today I read the last 10 stories in the book, making this the official final book of 2023,. Bradbury is the author of 2 of my favorite works of all time (CONT)

vivastory “The Martian Chronicles“ & “Something Wicked This Way Comes.“ His short stories have been a decidedly mixed bag, with some truly sinister tales (“The Handler“ “The Pedestrian“ “Let's Play Poison“ etc) & some that manage to wax poetic about the past without becoming overly saccharine, something that Bradbury doesn't always accomplish. I think that Bradbury is better at longform fiction, or his fixup novels, but I am glad that I tackled (CONT) 4mo

vivastory @Branwen Hahaha yeah. It's been a bit since I've heard it, but it definitely is a hard one to forget 😂 4mo

It‘s been months since I‘ve done one of these, but I love that question 2 really made me think hard about my choice.

1. Bread-butter-cheese - I‘m counting it as one food 😂
2. Ray Bradbury - I could re-read his short stories forever.
3. Hmmmm...I remember having a big crush on Robin Hood (🦊) in Disney‘s animated version.
4. Yikes - I don‘t really like to do either, but it‘s easier for me to get up early than stay up late.
5. Ok!

Bradbury is my all time favorite sci fi writer and favorite short story writer. And he was an incredibly voracious reader so it was hard to pinpoint his favorite book but Verne is usually mentioned among his influences so I picked a Verne cover of a story I loved myself.

BekahB He‘s my favorite too! I read The Illustrated Man in high school and fell in love with his writing. 6y
jmofo Great choice! He‘s one of my longtime favorites! 6y

My all time favourite author, anything of Ray Bradbury's is worth investing your time. His earlier short tales rank among his best work, stories such as 'Skeleton,' 'The Jar' and 'The Small Assassin' are simply unforgettable. His first pro-sale story, 'The Lake,' is one of the few works of fiction to make me cry. In short: If it has Ray Bradbury's name on it, you should probably read it.

When you're supposed to be spending the day doing homework but instead find yourself obsessively reading the wonderful Ray Bradbury! ?

"Somewhere a band is playing
Listen, O, listen, that tune?
Learn it and you'll dance on forever
In June and yet June and more...June."

Amazing collection of some of Bradburys best work. Interesting way to arrange stories as some of them are parts of a greater collection. 10/10 Bradbury will always be a classic.

I was so busy rushing headlong into the future, loving libraries and books and authors with all my heart and soul, was so consumed with becoming myself but I simply didn't notice that I was short, homely, and untalented. Perhaps, in some corner of my mind, I did know.
