Another week of starting too many damn books and finishing too few...
It's still pretty early in the year but quite a bit of 2020 reading so far has taken place and/or by writers from Eastern Europe/Russia. Not sure if this is intentional. And now I start this tome.
Back to school has hit our family like a ton of bricks. I‘ve watched Fleabag AND You - and I‘m not much of a TV gal and managed to get in 50 pages a week for the #chunksterchallenge2020. It‘s about half what I‘d hoped but half is so much better than none!
The older I get the more I‘m horribly daunted by chunksters. Even if it‘s a book I really want to read. On page 50 and it looks like this... 😱
It‘s been on my urgent TBR stack since July - I‘m going in!
4⭐️ It took me 5 weeks to finish this doorstopper; the book cover has turned curly! I did get emotional experiencing the war with the characters, but I found that Grossman over-romanticized the good sides of humanity. Most of the characters are of good personalities, hard-working, and patriotic. Where are the bad guys? All for Nothing by Walter Kempowski is more realistic in picturing the mess that war brought to the people
So my plan to finish off Stalingrad over the weekend has failed. I was distracted! There‘s a new season of Midnight Diner on Netflix, and my friend told me about The Morning Show on AppleTV🙃😅 I just had to watch it!
So many emotional moments it‘s best not to rush this book
Slow progress ☺️
I‘m only 15% in, and I‘m in love with this book 🥰
I imagine all the male characters as Jude Law, Joseph Fiennes, and Ed Harris. The ladies are Rachel Weisz and her derivatives. How‘s that for a compelling story? ❤️
It‘s going to take me ages to finish this book, not that I‘m not enjoying it. I‘m facing two major problems now:
1. The Russian names! I have limited memory bytes and it is truly a struggle here 😅 I‘m writing them down and it helps a bit
2. This book smells so good I keep stopping to sniff it 🙈I have book sniffing addiction! 🐽🐽🐽
Wish me luck!
Intimidating... but my curiosity wins 😆
Immediate TBR stack. Those on the right are books I read this year
