This is a hard one to describe—a dark, moody tale existing at the intersection of fairy tales & the modern Industrial Age. Taking place in a unnamed Eastern European country, it‘s the story of Pavla, a dwarf, & Danilo, the boy who loves her. There‘s nothing easy about either of their lives from the moment they meet when Pavla‘s parents try to stretch her into a normal height. Gorgeous, brooding writing (ok story) is just enough to make it a pick.

It seemed weird to me that I was more invested in and moved by the chapters dedicated to Danilo and not by the protagonist wolf-girl's chapters. In any case, I enjoyed this strange little meditation on time and the past.

But like a rat or icy wind, love creeps in.

"First the body and then the heart. Good night. Sleep tight. The bed bugs will surely bite." Fun fact about me. I'll read anything Lauren Groff writes and recommends. She blurbed this book & I'm excited.

I've just started reading Little Nothing and I am hooked! I don't have much to say about it yet, but I can't wait to read more! This I admit was a total cover buy... 😏 and so far, I'm glad I did buy it. I'm slowly making my way through my tbr shelf, and I hope to finish it before school starts again in the fall 🤞🏼

Just started this and it's very interesting. Different from my usual reads!

I'm surprised this one has such a low rating on Litsy, I thought it was a pitch-perfect modern fairy tale, a bit Grimm, a bit Pullman, a dash of Carter and Valente. It plays on all of the great folkloric traditions of transformation, ostracisation and redemption to explore how we use stories (and how stories use us!) to create and change identities.

Even though couldn't really get into this one, I sure enjoyed my walk to the library to return it! 🌞🌷🌞🌷

It's unseasonably warm in Colorado this weekend, so naturally I'm cracking a beer and reading by the lake 👌🏻☀️😍
Update: one of the dogs I'm watching escaped the yard and I had to run through the neighborhood until I caught him 🙄😡

12 books read. 1 non-fiction and only 3 romance/chick lit so I got out of my comfort zone. 👍

This book has captured me. I'm only 30 pages in and hoping it doesn't disappoint.

I'm not going to bother catching up on my reading in-between but I just finished this. It was good storytelling & engaging to read but it left me so unsatisfied that I have to just say So-So.

Picking up some serious Geek Love vibes from this read (not a bad thing).

Written in "Fairy Tale" form, which I do love ❤️. A big unanswered question, which frustrated me. But not terrible. ???

Just finished. Definitely one of those books for which the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I'll be turning some of its themes and questions over in my head for quite a while.

Ugh....I had to make myself finish this one. Amateurish is the first word that comes to mind. There is no character development, no driving theme to the plot, and lots of pointless/gratuitous scenes. I really expected more, especially considering the author has several other books with great reviews.

Astonishing book. I had loved Mary Coin and this one is even more haunting.

This wasn't my favorite book. I loved the beginning and couldn't put it down and then as it went on, it became boring and hard to follow. There were too many characters and the author left too many questions unanswered. I just didn't like the style and the way it was written. Just okay for me.

You guys! I just got my first galley from Penguin's First to Read site! The blurb says it's a fairy tale with a dose of magic and a story about acceptance. Can't wait! #newreads
