Hamster Princess
Hamster Princess: Harriet the Invincible | Ursula Vernon
13 posts | 20 read | 10 to read
Sleeping Beauty gets a feisty, furry twist in this hilarious new comic series from the creator of Dragonbreath Harriet Hamsterbone is not your typical princess. She may be quite stunning in the rodent realm (you'll have to trust her on this one), but she is not so great at trailing around the palace looking ethereal or sighing a lot. She finds the royal life rather . . . dull. One day, though, Harriet's parents tell her of the curse that a rat placed on her at birth, dooming her to prick her finger on a hamster wheel when she's twelve and fall into a deep sleep. For Harriet, this is most wonderful news: It means she's invincible until she's twelve! After all, no good curse goes to waste. And so begins a grand life of adventure with her trusty riding quail, Mumfrey...until her twelfth birthday arrives and the curse manifests in a most unexpected way. Perfect for fans of Babymouse and Chris Colfer's Land of Stories, this laugh-out-loud new comic hybrid series will turn everything you thought you knew about princesses on its head.

Another series with quite a few booms under its belt before the cover change. Personally I like the original cover better, but the new cover style gives a more adventures feeling.

1. When people park their carts/shopping trolley in the middle of the aisle and walk off to look at something! Sweet Fancy Moses!! Get out of the aisle!!
2. Cake!
3. A hamster named Squeakers. He “died” which I found out from my mom years later meant my dad let it go in the back yard bc he couldn‘t handle the spinning wheel noise. 😮
4. Modern family drama.. for some reason I just don‘t care for it.
5. 👍🏻💙💙💙

ericarobynreads Omg agreeeeeee!! It always makes me wonder how people that do that with their carts drive their vehicles. I bet it‘s the same people that take up two parking spots. 7y
Ke633 @ericarobynreads It‘s probably the same ppl that sit in the middle of the road at a stop when you need to turn in. 🙄🙄 😂😂 7y

Sooo cute!! Middle-grade fiction with a hamster as a Sleeping Beauty type heroine. I will be reading more by this author.

Adore! A princess who believes that whatever she does is princess-like simply because she *is* a princess. The story borrows elements from the legend of Sleeping Beauty except Harriet decides to use her invincible years (that is the time before the curse kicks in on her 12th birthday) jousting, cliff diving, monster fighting... I hope Harriet has more adventures!

Bookworm83 It's sounds adorable...added to my stack! 8y

I have a membership to three libraries (technically four, but I rarely visit the library where I go to grad school.) This is just a slice of the three tote bags full of library books I have out now. These are a few from each, ones I plan to plow through this weekend.

Still loving our read out loud of Harriet the Invincible. Is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty...except Harriet is the hero of the story. 😊

Thanks to @bookriot panels for the great post on graphic books for girls who get shit done. I'm loving reading Hamster Princess to my biggest little.

Mamashep Looks like she's enjoying it! 8y
TriniCapini @Mamashep totally staged pic. ? But it's a fun book and while I think I'm enjoying it more (most of the jokes go over her head), she had "one more chapter" syndrome yesterday. :) 8y
Mamashep @TriniCapini one more chapter syndrome is the best syndrome ever! 8y

Great middle grade read that my precocious six-year-old and I both enjoyed. The drawings are great, there are a lot of jokes just for grown-ups, and there's a great twist on traditional princess stories. Harriet is a bad-ass, a princess who fights ogres and evil fairies and cliff dives for fun.
