Wow another book where I have a lot of mixed feelings! There was a lot to like about this one, including the two main characters and the setting. I also appreciated a book that talked a lot about foster care and adoption, subjects important to me especially since my youngest sister was adopted into our family after spending far too long bouncing in and out of foster care, waiting for a judge to stop giving her birth dad "one more chance" to ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) stop drinking and take care of his daughter. It's so hard for the system to find a balance between helping parents do what they need to do to keep their children & removing children from situations that are simply hopeless & I felt like this book explored that topic well. That said, you may be able to gather that this wasn't exactly a lighthearted romcom as the blurb suggests. While there are some warm moments, I think this book ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) would have read better if the author had focused more on writing it as a more serious novel instead of trying to add serious topics to a fluffy book. The story felt unbalanced, so while I did enjoy it, I didn't love it, especially because the ending felt extremely rushed and the epilogue was a little ?!?! for me.

Still a worthwhile one-time read with bonus points for talking about a subject that I don't often see addressed. ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) This book took me to Tennessee for #ReadtheUSA2020 and finishing it brought me to a total of 1092 pages for #MidyearRush and 453 pages for #24b4Monday, so if I can read about 1000 pages today and tomorrow (total) I'll be right on top of my goals! 😁

Andrew65 That‘s great 👏👏👏, I‘m over 300 pages behind for #Midyearrush. 😬 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65 - I'm way behind, too, which is why I made my #24B4Monday goal to be catching up on my #MidyearRush goal 😂 It's like readathon inception! 4y

1. Absolutely perfect - 70* & low humidity... only supposed to get around 80 today. Getting ready to head out to the garden!!
2. Set aside yesterday afternoon just to play games & visit with my mom & brother. We had SO much fun.
3. Tagged, plus an Agatha Christie & the final book in an older children's series I've been reading.

This book had an identity crisis a couple chapters in. It began as a light rom-com but quickly morphed into a more serious story about the wider scope of love, familial bonds & the foster care system w/a dash of romance thrown in to lighten things up. I enjoyed the book but the cover & blurb are misleading & a lot of people may be disappointed, especially if, like me, they turn to lighter romances for a palette cleanser in between heavier reads.

The Dating Charade juxtaposes light humor and banter with the heavy issues of childhood neglect, abuse, and abandonment. I'm not sure it worked for me.

I liked both Cassie and Jett, and the humorous scenes of children's antics are really the best part of the book.

Interesting premise, cute characters, great kid humor, tragedy, and a wee bit of romance. In the end though, for me at least, it just didn't click.

Following a promising first date, each become the primary caregiver for 3 kids. Instead of trusting each other with their changing circumstances and building community together, they hide their growing responsibilities from each other. They deal with children who are abandoned, neglected, and children of drug addicted family members. This is a story of value but misplaced as a romance; not many single, foster parent book characters out there.

Thanks to the joys of online dating, Cassie has lost faith that she will find her person. Firefighter Jett has the potential to surprise her—but when each takes charge of three children, doubt colors their future possibilities.

With a connection from the past, Cassie and Jett make a believable couple caught in a web of uncertainties and new romance. I had fun seeing them navigate both the comical moments and the more complicated ones.

A fantastic debut novel from Melissa Ferguson! The author‘s writing is easy to read and the book will have you laughing out loud at the hilarious events that fill the plot. But the author addresses deep emotional issues involved in broken families and also highlights the sacrifice needed in loving and rearing children, whether blood-related or not. If you enjoy hilarious and heart-warming contemporary romance, you will love this book.

“But fate has other plans, and Cassie‘s online dating profile catches the eye of firefighter Jett Bentley. In Jett‘s memory, Cassie Everson is the unreachable girl-of-legend from their high school days. Nervously, he messages her, setting off a chain of events that forces a reluctant Cassie back into the dating game.”
