With all short story collections some stories hit the spot better than others. These were generally enjoyable for me - I preferred the shorter more concise ones compared to the "longer" pieces.
Picked this up for #bookspin for August.

Having read the book, I can't help but wonder if Checkov was secretly stoic. Especially, in stories such as " A Boring Story", "Student", and "Bishop", he veers into exploring death, interconnectedness of human-beings and transitory nature of power and fame. Overall, it was one of the best short story collections I have ever read.
So many short stories for the #shortstoryswap ! I really love classics and have not read any of these. Thanks so much for this package @PagesOfKate ! This will keep me busy for a while. 😂😂

I've been reading some Chekhov to my doggo again today. He prefers books about animals. But this collection of short stories wasn't too bad. Chekhov's writing improves as he progresses as a writer, so some of these are hit and some are wild misses. Varied.
Not feeling too great today so just spending a little time reading some Chekhov to my seizure assistance doggo. He seems to be enjoying it.
“One fine evening the no less fine office manager Ivan Dmitrich Cherviakov was sitting in the second row of the stalls, watching “The Bells of Corneville” through opera glasses...” #firstlines #thedeathofaclerk

It amazes me how words written a hundred years ago can still resonate with such clarity and beauty.
Oh man am I smitten with Checkov. He is a master painter with words.
