"whenever people agree with me, I always feel I must be wrong."
Most of wilde aphorisms seem to come from that play :)
Just started a reread and I find myself highlighting quotes a lot :)
“God knows; I won't be an Oxford don anyhow. I'll be a poet, a writer, a dramatist. Somehow or other I'll be famous, and if not famous, I'll be #notorious. Or perhaps I'll lead the life of pleasure for a time and then—who knows?—rest and do nothing. What does Plato say is the highest end that man can attain here below? To sit down and contemplate the good. Perhaps that will be the end of me too.” #QuotsyJan19
“If a woman wants to hold a man, she has merely to appeal to what‘s worst in him”
...nowadays so many conceited people go about society pretending to be good, that I think it shows rather a sweet and modest disposition to pretend to be bad. Besides, there is this to be said. If you pretend to be good, the world takes you very seriously. If you pretend to be bad, it doesn't. Such is the astounding stupidity of optimism.
Next up on my Oscar Wilde Luncheon Read.

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” ― Oscar Wilde
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.
Totally enjoyed this! It was actually the audio from the play, not a straight-up audiobook, but it was awesome! I have always loved reading stories set in this time period, although I am VERY glad I was not born into it! LOL
You should probably expect multiple #somethingforsept posts from me today because I love #greatquotes and have a whole collection of them in various notebooks and digital documents. #septphotochallenge
