Inn, The | James Patterson, Candice Fox
21 posts | 21 read | 6 to read
James Patterson's strongest team since the Women's Murder Club are the first responders when their seafront town is targeted by vicious criminals. Bill Robinson is starting over. The Inn at Gloucester stands alone on the rocky New England shoreline. Its seclusion suits former Boston police detective Bill Robinson, novice owner and innkeeper. As long as the dozen residents pay their rent, Robinson doesn't ask any questions. Yet all too soon Robinson discovers that leaving the city is no escape from the dangers he left behind. A new crew of deadly criminals move into the small town, bringing drugs and violence to the front door of the inn. Robinson feels the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. His sense of duty compels him to fight off the threat to his town. But he can't do it alone. Before time runs out, the residents of the inn will face a choice. Stand together? Or die alone. Mehso-so

Meh. My first book by James Patterson. Will I read others of his vast oeuvre? Maybe, but maybe not.

MrT I've only ever liked Alex Cross. The rest Meh..... JP and......I'm pretty sure he just lends his name to inferior writers for profit. 2y
tpixie @MrT I totally agree. I love the Alex Cross books. The first ones were much more gory. As time has gone by the newer ones are not quite as explicit so they have a larger commercial appeal. He used to be in advertising, so he‘s an idea guy. Now he uses that to his benefit, by having a stable of writers helping write books for him and he can spit out his ideas. $$$ 2y
MaGoose @tpixie @MrT Thanks for your comments and insights. I'll try reading some of the Alex Cross books. 1y

I took some time to get involved in this story. The characters were many and varied, the story filled with bad guys and good guys. I just couldn‘t feel anything for the storyline. By the end I was mildly enjoying it but definitely not one of my favorites.

An inn owner with a shadowed past and inn residents who have baggage of their own, band together to take on a drug dealer wreaking havoc in their small town. Fast passed and engrossing. The story has good resolution but I was left wanting to know more about the inn's residents.

5 star review because this book captivated me the second I was done with the first page. It had lots of intense action and the plot was good. I highly recommend this book to JP fans and others!

I will pick up everything by Candice Fox. She is one of my favourite authors, and while I have enjoyed her team up works with Patterson, this one just did not hit the mark. It wasn‘t Fox. Her trademark dark, complex stories and characters weren‘t present. It was a great concept, but sort of fell flat for me. It was superficial.

Loved this book, I thought it was great. I've not read a James Patterson before so I was really chuffed Bear picked it up for me for my birthday. Great characters and concise story with not too many storylines. Excellent story, I'll be trying more by this author.

Entertaining, this is an easy read. A widowed ex cop, escaping a secret in Boston finds meaning when driven to protect his new small town from a drug lord. The tenants at his inn rise up to help him, revealing their own secrets along the way. It's a good old fashioned cop story with some interesting characters.

It took me a little longer to read this book because I‘ve been moving, but I just finished it tonight and I really liked it! This was probably one of my favorite Patterson books I‘ve read this year! I really enjoyed the characters and I wouldn‘t mind if Patterson turned this novel into a series. I believe right now it‘s just a stand-alone.
