I finished this last night. It was a tough listen but a very important one. I know we all remember where we were on September 11, 2001 when we told that America was under attack. I was in 9th grade chorus. As a teenager I knew what was going on but never really got the full story. So I decided I needed to listen to this. I have also been watching the documentary on Hulu both have been hard to watch/listen but important. We will never forget!

Oh. I didn't realize that the audio of this includes actual recordings from the planes.

But y'all were right - I can't imagine reading this. This needs to be experienced audibly. #currentread #currentlyreading #audiobook #readingwithmyears

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This book told the story of each of the events on 9/11 through the voices of individuals who experienced the horrors of the day and the continued tragedy of the following days, weeks, and months. It was tough to read, but so important to hear these individual experiences and remember.
It was maybe not the most comforting book to read during a global pandemic though. I'd highly recommend this, but maybe wait a couple of months?

Wife The audiobook was very well done with some real audio from the planes. 4y
Jeshara @Wife Thanks for the recommendation! I might have to do a re-read with the audio version. 4y

Day 10 of #adventrecommends ... a rare 5-star read from 2019. I don‘t hand out 5 stars easily or often, but this merits it.

Bklover I‘m reading this one now. Incredible and moving book 5y

mom2bugnbee Did you read this in print or audio? 5y

Amiable @mom2bugnbee In print. Have you done the audio? I attended an author presentation where he read some parts aloud, and thought he was excellent. If he narrates his own book I would recommend it. 5y
TiredLibrarian I'm about 60 pages onto it. I hope I'm up to it. 5y
Amiable @TiredLibrarian It‘s very visceral. I felt anxious and agitated—like I was living that day all over again. Definitely step away and take breaks throughout if you feel the need. 5y

September stats:

17 books total—

8 physical books
6 audiobooks
3 ebooks

That‘s for sure the highest number of audiobooks I‘ve ever read in one month. 🥳

MicheleinPhilly Nice! I‘m sitting at 11, possibly 12, and 6 of those were/are crime series reads. 😬 5y
Lindy Is your audiobook time going up consistently, or just this month? 5y
Reviewsbylola I would say just this month. I think it‘s because my kids are both in school all day, so a lot more time to clean and bake, which is when I listen to audiobooks. @Lindy 5y

Reviewsbylola I feel like half my reading is typically true crime. 😆 @MicheleinPhilly 5y
BarbaraBB Are you into true crime podcasts yet? They are so addictive... 5y
Reviewsbylola Not really but I do love audiobooks of true crime podcasts. Then I can just listen all at once. I just did Body of Proof on Audible. @BarbaraBB 5y

This details the 24-hour period of 9/11/01, told entirely through the voices of Americans who lived through or witnessed the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and crash of United Flight 93 in Shanksville. I couldn‘t put it down, although I felt like I was living through it all over again. All of the emotions of that day came rushing back. I‘ve even had trouble sleeping for the past few nights. The narrative is that visceral.

That is a stark and sobering statement of fact. 😕

This passage hits me like a punch in the heart because my husband is a firefighter. And this is exactly what firefighters do: they walk directly into danger while the rest of us are running in the opposite direction. And for 343 of those firefighters 9/11/01 was indeed their last day on earth. 😢

CarolynM Wow. I have no words. I can't imagine how that passage must feel to you. 5y
Amiable @CarolynM I usually try not to think about the dangers of his job when he‘s at work (like he is right now, in fact). But this book is a huge emotional trigger—for all sorts of reasons. 5y

mcipher That‘s huge. And so brave and selfless and wonderful. Your husband must be an amazing guy (but I bet sometimes you wish he was a an accountant!) 5y
Amiable @mcipher My husband used to be an engineer who was a volunteer firefighter at night and on weekends. After 9/11 he decide to attend the fire academy and become a full-time career firefighter, which he‘s been for more than 16 years now. So 9/11 actually changed the trajectory of his career. 5y
mcipher Oh wow! So this book has got to be incredibly powerful for you. That‘s amazing! 5y

Sitting here in the waiting room for a doctor‘s appointment and I just started this book. And I immediately began to cry.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I want to read it...and yet I know it will be tough. 5y
marleed Yea, I might need to read that one at home with a box of Kleenex nearby. 5y
