Midnighters #1: The Secret Hour
Midnighters #1: The Secret Hour | Scott Westerfeld
8 posts | 47 read | 17 to read
Nobody is safe in the secret hour. Strange things happen at midnight in the town of Bixby, Oklahoma. Time freezes. Nobody moves. For one secret hour each night, the town belongs to the dark creatures that haunt the shadows. Only a small group of people know about the secret hour -- only they are free to move about the midnight time. These people call themselves Midnighters. Each one has a different power that is strongest at midnight: Seer, Mindcaster, Acrobat, Polymath. For years the Midnighters and the dark creatures have shared the secret hour, uneasily avoiding one another. All that changes when the new girl with an unmistakable midnight aura appears at Bixby High School. Jessica Day is not an outsider like the other Midnighters. She acts perfectly normal in every way. But it soon becomes clear that the dark creatures sense a hidden power in Jessica . . . and they're determined to stop her before she can use it. A story of courage, shadowy perils, and unexpected destiny, the secret hour is the first volume of the mesmerizing Midnighters trilogy by acclaimed author Scott Westerfeld.

Pickpick

I decided to grab a random book off of my shelf to read and picked The Secret Hour. I enjoyed it quite a bit Scott Westerfeld made you feel like you were running and fighting with the darklings yourself. The premise of the series is that special people born at the secret hour get to experience the "secret hour" while everyone else is frozen in time. Of course it wasn't until the new girl showed up that things got even weirder for them.

Started reading this one today. I'm sorry I've been away dealing with stuff this last month so I haven't picked up a book at all lately. Back to normal though woohoo :)

Great book. This one was a roller coaster of suspense. It was all well written but not the the best book. I feel with me being a horror person I expected much like I said when I started, but there wasn‘t much of it at all. Other perspectives of people reading the book may find it scary but not for me. It‘s more of a mystery and suspense kind of book! Overall I rate it a 4/5 not my favourite but still enjoyed it! The book makes you curious! 📖

And starting today I‘m hyped to try Midnighters which is a horror story that I will be going to rate hard because I have good taste for horror and I have read a lot that try to hard to make it spooky and well written at the same time! So I‘m excited to see how this will turn out.

⭐⭐⭐
Somewhere between a so-so and a pick, it's a dark and fast-paced tale of the monsters that come to life in the midnight hour. I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more as a teen, but it was still pretty fun. Not sure I'm interested enough to seek out book 2, though.

This was the first series by Scott Westerfeld that I read and I absolutely adore it! It was one of my favorites as a kid. I really need to re-read it soon. I've rarely found anyone who's read it!

This series is about a group of teenagers who can move in the midnight hour! A unique and quick read.

So good that I'm now angry that it sucked me in and then ended. So inconsiderate to leave me hanging like that.
