A bookseller in Florida becomes involved in helping solve the murder of one of his friends . The murder took place during a major hurricane, made to look like the victim‘s death was the result of that hurricane I found it slow at first but it picked up and became intriguing. It‘s a sequel to Grisham‘s Camino Islands

One of two books that I finished today (whoop whoop) I really liked this. Bruce Cable (antihero?) of Camino Island is back. Likeable cad that he is, Bruce gets involved when a writer friend of his is found dead after the island gets hit by a hurricane. This was really fun, not quite up to par with classic legal thriller Grisham, my favourite kind, but an enjoyable read. I preferred it over Camino Island. Bruce grew on me, I would read another!

Trying to institute daily quiet reading with the minor. She‘s having a time focusing which I get so items good for both of us! Nice way to relax on a busy weekend and hopefully I‘ll get motivated to rip through this book, once I stop browsing Litsy that is!!

A little bedtime reading with MacGruber. This is book #6 of 2021, and although I am already behind on my book goal, I am in a way better reading headspace this year and I‘m really enjoying reading! It feels good, a little bit of normalcy. Plus, John Grisham is a huge comfort read for me. Camino Island was not my fave but in hindsight, it was lacking the legal aspect that I love. So far, really enjoying this one.

I was almost disappointed. Like this was almost bromance detective. Which is fine but after the first book, I didn‘t really expect this to be a “normal” murder story. And the nursing home angle pissed me off cause I work in a nursing home and know not all are bad. I was expecting some of the characters from the first book more and didn‘t get it. Half way decent read.

It‘s been ages since I‘ve read Grisham and decided to give his latest a chance on my #bookspinbingo board this month. I‘m being generous with my rating. I was hoping for big drama but found the mystery outlandish and boring. #bookspin #readyourway

Just okay. There was a lot going on here and it didn‘t all hang together that well, but it passed the time. #readharder2020

I really liked this one!! It was the perfect listen for my current mood❣️🎧Nursing Home fraud is an interesting subject matter and one that I‘m a little familiar with as I have several relatives who work in this industry and I‘ve heard loads of terrible stories. John Grisham is a seasoned story teller and knows his crimes and legal thrillers. I hope this “series” continues.

I really enjoyed Camino Island so I‘m listening to its sequel Camino Winds. A category 5 hurricane hits Florida...direct! Guess who‘s sitting on their balcony watching the palms sway, lends to the atmosphere 🌴🌴🌴

marleed I actually liked this follow up better! 3y
erzascarletbookgasm 👋 Cindy! Are you still in quarantine? How are you doing, besides enjoying the beautiful ocean view? 😘 3y
Cinfhen We are out of quarantine @erzascarletbookgasm but still social distancing and masking around our parents just to be extra cautious! It‘s been a “weird” reunion but it‘s still nice to see our parents f2f 😷 3y
Cinfhen It‘s fun so far @marleed but I‘m only a few chapters in 3y

Whenever John Grisham strays from his forte i.e. Legal Thrillers, he mostly comes up with some average books. This is one of them, through not a bad one, it doesn't match up to his best...
A Painted House is one I can think of which was a good non legal novel from John Grisham. Read my detailed review here https://rb.gy/kwm4yq and make up your mind if you want to pick it up... Thanks

Darthdad For what ever reason I‘m very interested in reading this one 3y
manirudh2000 Sure, go ahead and read it, it's a follow up of Camino Island. As a standalone, it's fairly good but doesn't match up to the lofty standards of the author's legal thrillers... 3y
RamsFan1963 @manirudh2000 Have you ever read Playing for Pizza by Grisham? I liked it a lot. 3y
manirudh2000 @RamsFan1963 I have, but so long back that I could read it again.... Thanks for reminding me! 3y

Well I wanted to like this one, but it just fell flat for me as a sequel to Camino Island. So much of it was far fetched and too easily tied up with a bow. It felt like the writing was rushed and parts were lacking detail. Easy read, but I can‘t recommend it.

Not the sequel you would expect to “Camino Island”. The author unusually spent more time on characters partying than the behind the scenes suspense with nefarious characters.

Enjoyed the audiobook. How do you know whether or death is due to the hurricane that ripped through the island or was a murder? Follow these characters as the investigating goes along. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I wanted to share a look at John Grisham's bookshelf organization. I could stack a lot more books that way.
I've been enjoying this authors series from the Book Passage bookstore in San Francisco through covid19.

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm I could probably fit more, but I‘d be worried about needing the book at a bottom of one of those stacks. 😅 4y

I read Camino Island three years ago and enjoyed it. I was excited for a sequel. After watching the King and Grisham chat online. This fell so short. We see very little of the quirky island characters that were in the first book. The “mystery” was lackluster. It felt like it was just all over the place. There was little to no character development. I haven‘t read a lot of Grisham but this one just missed the mark for me. i struggled to finish.

I‘m so accustomed to working through my thrifted stack of JG books often 15-20+ years post publication so imagine my surprise when my library presented this to me on its publication date! Im entertained by this Bay Bookstore Bruce Cable series, but if the opposite of chick-lit is dude-lit, this may be one - so there is that. However, the nursing home storyline was sure timely during this pandemic.
