Holy shit that was terrifying!

Science's new innovation has unexpected and disturbing results, flooding out over a small Oregon town.

I loved Lucy. She was a perfect main character, deeply flawed but brave. I so loved Brewer, too. 😭 the violence in this is just unreal and grotesque, but really did contribute to the plot. Just keep that in mind, I guess.

This was another long overdue Netgalley read.. deff need to find more from Johnson 😱

DogMomIrene 🤔 This review really makes me want to read this one, but the grotesque thing may be a problem. Have you read American Psycho? I tried reading that one and I remember Bateman killing a homeless man pretty early in the book, and I was like, nope, can‘t read this because the violence was just too vivid and grotesque. 2y
night_shift I haven't read that, but this may not be your jam if that's the case. One of the first death scenes has a kid jumping on someone and repeatedly smashing their head on the ground, to added sound effects. And that one's mild compared to some of the other violence. So yeah :/ 2y
night_shift @DogMomIrene I just remembered the first death was actually the kid repeatedly smashing a large book into a guy's face. Similar results, but trying to be accurate. 2y
DogMomIrene @night_shift Thanks. Sounds like I should pass on this one. Aw well😔 2y

Wow, what a wild ride! Teen ager Lucy, a south American orphan goes through a nitemare as a science experiment gone wrong takes over her small rural town. 4.5 stars for excellent story telling by the narrator. It lost half a point cause I spaced a lot of the heavy science related aspects of the story.

#Litsy #Community

It's the biggest boost to my ego when someone adds a book I've read to their stack. I think its better then getting a comment. I mean don't get me wrong comments are cool and I like knowing what folks have to say. But seeing a series of people have added a book to their own TBR.. something about it just gives me warm fuzzies.

BookmarkTavern I feel the same way! ❤️📚❤️ 3y
Bookwormjillk Agree!! 3y
Crazeedi I agree, it does warm the heart! 3y
Chelleo Same but I also feel the pressure of them not enjoying it as much as I did. 😬 3y

Lucy has never quite fit into her Eastern Oregon town and is happy that the school year is over early after a violent event. She gets invited to the subsequent celebration in the caves, where things get even more disturbing. This is a really satisfying horror story with sci-fi elements. It starts with a podcast episode, though that technique is not used as fully as it could have been and the ending could be stronger. But it‘s fun!

vivastory This book was wild 3y
Hooked_on_books @vivastory When the stuff started to go down in the cave, I was driving in a wide open space and still felt claustrophobic. That‘s good writing! 3y

January Round Up 1: I‘m making an effort to read more horror and write real reviews this year. The Loop was so good. Was disappointed in the new Unger.

First 5 star of the year. I loved this. If you‘re a Halloween 3 fan, this book is like if Silver Shamrock succeeded in implanting the Stonehenge chips into the teens of the town and they all go on a murder spree at the end of year rager. Pretty sick

vivastory I think this is the wildest book I read last year 3y

The Loop by Jeremy Robert Johnson is a brutal tale about a town that has fallen into chaos due to a science experiment gone very, very wrong.

This is a story that you will want to make sure to read well after you‘ve eaten…

If you enjoy tales centered around high school students where every second is tense and there is violence at every turn, then I highly recommend this one to you! It was absolutely brutal!

TW: Child abuse, dog death, gore.

Reggie I loved the main character, Lucy, in here. 3y

Thanks to @vivastory and @sprainedbrain for saying this is my kind of book cause it totally was. I thought of a couple of movies while I was reading it as you can see. This book starts with a transcript of a conspiracy theory podcast and the sense of creeping dread felt while reading those first few pages doesn‘t let up for half the book. This was sci-fi and horror with some surprising touches of comedy. Strong female protagonist. Good stuff!

Centique Hope you had a great Christmas Reggie! My 16yo loved the look and blurb of My Best Friends Exorcism. I told her it was Reggie Recommended 👍💕 3y
Reggie @Centique 😊I did! Hope yours was equally as awesome. And I‘m so glad she liked the look of it. Hopefully she‘ll start a love of horror off of it. 3y

This book was dark, beautiful, and funny science-fiction horror. If you enjoy nightmarish imagery, heartbreaking narratives, and creeping existential dread, then this book is for you.

Loved this sci-fi/horror on audio... the narrator is awesome. Be warned, though—while this book was fun for me, it‘s gory and loaded with triggers.

sprainedbrain Definitely a book for @Reggie 3y
Reggie @vivastory @sprainedbrain started this right now and because of that first transcript, I‘m already on edge. Lol. Have either of you ever listened to a podcast called Limetown? That‘s what that made me think of. It‘s just a creepy podcast that only spanned 2 seasons. If you ever get bored. 3y
vivastory @Reggie I've never heard of that. Will check it out! 3y

A series of seemingly unconnected attacks in the Pacific Northwest town of Turner Falls is the beginning of a bizarre outbreak. Several people online called this Cronenberg meets Stranger Things. The body horror aspect of certain Cronenberg movies is spot on, but I thought of it as more of Cronenberg meets David Wong (John Dies at the End). This is one of the most outrageous, & bleakest, horror books I've read this year & I loved it.

Whew! I wasn‘t at all sure what to expect from this one & I definitely did enjoy it! It reads like a horror movie - it‘s quite visual and the nods to explaining what‘s really going on are introduced in a multimedia fashion. And while it‘s an ending that my Paba would approve of, I will admit that it‘s a bit too bleak for me to really love! Still, it‘s certainly exciting to see these teens take on an evil corporation & try to save the world!

BekahB I‘m excited for this one! 4y
