Mr. Mercedes: A Novel | Stephen King
post image

1. Any kind of demon. There is a book called The Demonologist that chronicles Ed and Lorraine Warren‘s real life work and the last half of it freaked me out. They‘re the couple from The Conjuring movies.

2. I want to say Poltergeist but it also could have been any of those really bad ones that they used to show on USA Up All Night.

3. I keep telling myself I‘m gonna start the trilogy but never have.

#spookysaturday

TrishB It‘s a great trilogy 👍🏻 4y
TheNeverendingTBR Really great trilogy if you're into crime/thrillers, I'd say it's a read-oncer though. Thanks for playing along! 💫 4y
readordierachel Up All Night! Haven't thought about that in forever 4y

vivastory I haven't thought of Up All Night in ages! 4y
vivastory This is def a “tell-me-your-Gen-without-saying-your-age-comment“ 😂@readordierachel 4y
Reggie @vivastory @readordierachel Lol, we‘re getting older. One of my favorite movies I remember from it was Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowlarama. 4y
ReadingEnvy Oh my gosh I once went out to dinner with a college friend and his parents and he forgot (?) To warn me in advance that their true passion was casting out demons. 4y
Reggie @ReadingEnvy Lol, wow, that must have been quite an experience. 4y
CBee I remember Poltergeist being the first one that really scared the s*** out of me. I hid under a blanket 😂😂 4y

1.Damien from The Omen!
2.Junoon,a 90s Hindi movie where the hero is a were-tiger.Ridiculous production values now but terrifying for a 6 year old!
3.I want to make my way through Shirley Jackson's entire body of work!
Amazing graphic used !!!

TheNeverendingTBR I'm the same, I've not read any Shirley Jackson either but I'll probably start off with her most popular one 4y

Ghost Story | Peter Straub
post image

1. In books, pretty much anything ghostly or demonic. In movies, I still think Freddy Krueger was a terrifying premise even though the movies no longer scare me.

2. Probably The Exorcist, at a ridiculously young age. If not A Nightmare on Elm Street. Hard to tell, I‘ve been watching them almost all my life.

3. I think this one has been on it the longest.

#spookysaturday

TheNeverendingTBR Me too, I've still to read Ghost Story. I've actually not read any of Straub's books, only The Talisman and Black House that he did with Stephen King 😬 4y

1. That's a hard one, but pretty much any demonic entity in books or film 😬
2. Candyman.
3. Tagged, I'll get to it one of these days.

Dracula | Bram Stoker

1) I love my horror so that it so hard. Leatherface or The Thing (1982). Or Jaws.

2) I think it was Jaws but I also saw The Birds at a really young age.

3) Probably Dracula although there are a few Stephen King books I haven‘t read.

#spookysaturday
@TheNeverendingTBR

TheNeverendingTBR The Thing is definitely scary! 😧 4y
TheNeverendingTBR Jaws terrified me when I was young! 😂 4y
TheNeverendingTBR Classic and essential horror reading! 🧛‍♂️ 4y

Misery | Stephen King
post image

1. The Babadook was probably the scariest, though there are plenty of contenders.
2. I was WAY too young when I saw one of the old black and white King Kong movies. I had nightmares for weeks. Course now I‘m a huge fan of Kaiju (big monster) films... 😅🤣
3. Tagged! There are plenty of King books I haven‘t read yet, but this one has been overlooked in favor of others many, many times.

Play along if you like! ❤️

Elizabeth2 Misery is my favorite of his. But that‘s because I prefer an edge of your seat thriller to a horror that involves the supernatural or fantastical. 4y
TheNeverendingTBR I overlooked Misery for years until I read it early 2020 and loved it, it's very detailed and atmospheric and I stuck it straight into the Pick pile! 😬 4y
TheNeverendingTBR I remember being way too young and The Blob was on TV (1956 version) and I had terrible nightmares because of that one! 😂 - thanks for playing along again! 📺 4y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm @Elizabeth2 Hehe, I tend to be the opposite. It‘s definitely one I plan on getting to, I just can‘t promise it will be soon. I do hear great things about it though. I honestly don‘t think I‘ve met anyone who didn‘t like it. 😅 4y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm @TheNeverendingTBR Nice! Everyone always sings its praises, I just always find myself gravitating to something else. I‘ll get to it...someday... 😅 The Blob is a great classic! ❤️ 4y

Wanna play a game? 👹

#spookysaturday 👻

bthegood 1. Pennywise
2. I don't have one particular movie that I remember, but on Saturdays the Cool Ghoul would show scary movies- my introduction was to the old Frankenstein, Werewolf, and Dracula movies (this is in the 70s and 80s - when there were only 3 or 4 channels to watch)
3. I don't have a book like that on my TBR for long - I tend to read those books quickly
Thx for the prompt!
(edited) 4y
Chrissyreadit I remember watching a lot of weird stuff in the 70‘s that I‘m sure I was too young for because it was all that was on- and we had 5 channels I think 🤣(Was Demon Seed ever shown on tv? I distinctly remember a computer trying to impregnate a woman) 4y
TheNeverendingTBR @bthegood I remember when there was only 4 channels, I used to record the late night horror films on VHS and watch them the following day, good memories! 😌 4y

TheNeverendingTBR @Chrissyreadit I don't think I know Demon Seed, a computer trying to impregnate a woman? That definitely sounds like a cheesy 80s horror film, my favourite kind! 😂 4y
EdnaC 1. Pennywise - not really the clown form but the truth evil that he is. That stuff terrifies me. 2. Children of the Corn - to this day I can‘t go near corn fields without being creeped out. 3. I guess the Shinning because my husband wants me to read it. I don‘t usually do horror. 4y
TheNeverendingTBR @EdnaC The Shining is superb, essential horror reading. If you're not into horror that much, I recommend reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King; is brilliant! 4y
LeahBergen 1. I must think on this one 🤔 2. I was somehow allowed to watch (at a very young age) the 1973 TV movie Don‘t Be Afraid of the Dark and was traumatized for YEARS. 😂😂 Look it up; there are little creatures in the basement. 😂😂 3. I have had Hell House by Richard Matheson on my shelves for way too long. 4y
TheNeverendingTBR @LeahBergen Wow, that looks absolutely terrifying! 😂 4y
TheNeverendingTBR @LeahBergen Been on mine for a long time also, I loved I Am Legend but unfortunately I've not read anything else by him..yet! 4y
EdnaC @TheNeverendingTBR thanks! I will add that to my list. 4y

1. Salem‘s Lot but there are many short stories of his that could easily be considered here.

2. Lisey from Lisey‘s Story. The evilness in Desperation. I just keep thinking about how Stephen King totally ruined family vacations for me. How that whole kid‘s family gets killed. And his sister was pushed down those steps. It was horrible. And what feels like the same evil in The Regulators which when I read it, I had nightmares about that book.

TheNeverendingTBR I'd say 'salems Lot is his best horror book, I've not read Liseys Story yet and I'll be reading Desperation for the first time on the 19th January. 4y
TheNeverendingTBR I agree, he is the master of short stories. Thanks for playing along! 👌 4y
Reggie @TheNeverendingTBR I get the sense that Lisey‘s Story from the people I‘ve ever talked to that have read it is one of his more least popular books but there‘s stuff in there that I still remember with clarity 15 years later. And if you read Desperation try to read The Regulators right next to it. Hope you like them all! 4y

TheNeverendingTBR @Reggie I'm starting Desperation on the 19th January and it'll be followed by The Regulators! 😃👌 4y
CherylS67 1. This is so hard, classic Stephen King Pet Semetary Contemporary Stephen King 11/22/63. 2. John Coffey from The Green Mile. Just an all around good person boss. 4y
Reggie @CherylS67 Hi Cheryl! And welcome to Litsy. I haven‘t read 11/22/63 but I‘ve heard such great things about it. So thanks for participating but I think you might want to screen shot this post take the pic to something like the app pic collage. 1. The Shining (it was my first horror book & there‘s a callback in the Dark Tower series that links them, my favorite King series. Yes my way of cheating & answering twice)

2. Roland/Flagg

I could go on & on ... so many great books/protagonists and he writes some of my favorite antagonists. The Crimson King, Pennywise, the Overlook 😁

BookDragonNotWorm Love your answers! I'd choose the same! 4y
Twainy @BookDragonNotWorm thank you! That‘s really kind of you to say. Since he‘s my first horror author I‘ll always buy his next book. I have so many King favorites 😁 4y
