A brutal murder, a suspect in jail, and an execution planned--but what if the wrong person is about to be killed? When a fellow U.S. Marshal asks Anita Blake to fly to a tiny community in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on an emergency consult, she knows time is running short. When she arrives, there is plenty of proof that a young wereleopard killed his uncle in the most gruesome and bloody way possible. As the mounting evidence points to him, a warrant of execution is already under way. But something seems off about the murder, and Anita has been asked for her expert opinion on the crime scene. Despite escalating pressure from local cops and the family's cries for justice for their dead patriarch, Anita quickly realizes that the evidence doesn't quite add up. Time is against Anita, as the tight-knit community is up in arms and its fear of supernaturals is growing. She races to uncover the truth and determine whether the Marshals have caught the killer or are about to execute an innocent man--all in the name of justice.

"Yes, I dated a few women, but that didn't mean I wanted to see them all naked. The same went for men; just because you like the gender doesn't mean you want to see them all. It's not Pokemon."

This might be my new favorite book quote! ???

Ruthiella So true! Not everyone has the urge to collect them all. (edited) 3y

I have to say, I really like where I think the series could be headed. Already on a wait list for ‘Rafael‘ & 🤞🏻🙏🏻 for minimal Overdrive/Kobo “issues” this time.

TheSpineView Awesome! 👍📖 3y

DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl Have you read any of the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series? This is book #27 🤗 (edited) 3y
CoverToCoverGirl I have not but I‘ve heard over the years that it‘s good.. I might get to it someday. So many books 😁 3y
DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl So many books, agreed🤣 I really enjoy the series myself. More than the couple first Merry Gentry novels tbh. 3y
CoverToCoverGirl Have you read all 27 of them? 3y
DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl I have yes😁 Started it sometime after moving out east and have been leisurely reading to catch up since then🤣😉 #28 is the newest published so I‘m almost there!!🤗🤗 3y
CoverToCoverGirl It‘s like hanging out with old friends when you read a series like that. We get so attached to some characters. The magic of books 📚 💜😁 3y
DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl That‘s exactly what it felt like to me while reading this one.😁♥️ 3y

Random post😝 Just wondering if I‘m alone in any of this⬇️

What would you do if you were reading (67% done of ‘The Queen‘s Gambit‘ - Overdrive) & it was pulled before it‘s due date? Me, furiously/angrily renew & re-sync for 15 mins then get frustrated when it doesn‘t work. Browsing my own books when the 🏷(Overdrive📕I‘ve been trying to sync to my reader for 3+ days) randomly appeared🤷🏻‍♀️🙄

Ruthiella How frustrating! 😖 3y
DieAReader @Ruthiella So very frustrating🤬😬 The older I get, the more & more I believe that “I was not created to be compatible with electronics/technology”🤷🏻‍♀️ It‘s become the running joke around me🙄🤣 Quite astonishing (& impressive - hubby agrees😉) that as much as I‘ve threatened to break/smash or run over the offending tech _______(⬅️Insert whatever “tech” thing I‘m trying to use here)...I‘ve never done it. Not even accidentally😂 3y
Velvetfur I'm with you on that one - I hate technology! 😂 3y

DieAReader @Velvetfur Right?!?😂 🤨 3y
CoverToCoverGirl It‘s never happened to me yet..... but h*ll yes that would leave me really peeved. I usually only borrow audiobooks. As you know I‘m a physical book kinda girl with unusual access to at least one or to books at any given time. 😉😁📖 3y
DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl It‘s very🤬😤I try to only get digital library loans when it‘s “must read” (series I incompletely own or a #chunkster, like this one, that I‘m invested in but don‘t want the physical). I rarely re-read things & I‘ve been having more problems with my hands. Holding certain items are often more uncomfortable or painful than others (hence the more digital reading). Oh how I‘d love unlimited access to you 1-2📚 🤩😝♥️ 3y
CoverToCoverGirl Sorry to hear your having trouble with your hands, that has to be tough. E-readers do have their place and I‘d definitely use one if it was necessary. 🤗🙂 3y
DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl Me too🥰 I think that‘s why I‘ve been more particular in what I buy in physical & whether it‘s 2nd hand, my preference usually, or new. I do miss our visits & aisle roaming ☕️📚👯‍♀️ 3y
Andrew65 Hate it when this happens 3y
Andrew65 Most of my reading these days is on e-readers, especially with issues of accessing libraries due to COvID. 3y
DieAReader @Andrew65 Agreed😬😤 I must be a sucker for punishment or something🙄🤣 3y
kwmg40 I love my e-reader, but what you describe has happened to me too with Overdrive and Kobo. A book occasionally disappears after a sync but then reappears after a day. It drove me crazy the first time but now I don't panic anymore. I just read something else while I await the book's return. 😄 3y
DieAReader @kwmg40 Does yours randomly remove the download if you return to the home page (for .2 seconds🙄)? It‘s a PITA & I have gotten used to it. Sometimes (more than others🤣) it just really🤬🤬🤬 3y
kwmg40 @DieAReader On the occasions when the book has disappeared, it happens only during a sync (if I recall correctly). What I hate is that, when the book reappears, it loses my spot. 3y

Reading Laurell K. Hamilton's latest, Sucker Punch. More than halfway through and still waiting for something to happen. It started out well then stalled. Way too much time being spent on how everyone is feeling. Would benefit from less talk and more action. Loving the Lavender Fairy Tale Cookie though, and enjoying the view across the Bay towards Michigan...how appropriate.

Another great book in this series. I am glad the books are returning to the roots of the story by having Anita chasing monsters again. This is one of my favorite series! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My reading has been abysmal lately, it‘s so hard to find a balance between rehab, gardening, exhaustion & pain before adding books to the list too. I couldn‘t resist the new Anita Blake book when it showed up in the mail today though, finished all 609 pages in less than a day! Was pleasantly surprised to find it heading back into its original “supernatural crime” genre instead of the soft(or not so soft)porn it‘s become. No sex!🥳

Lynnsoprano Hope you‘re feeling better 😘 4y
CaitlinSiem I love this series. Even when it went off track for a bit. 4y
