The cover is gorgeous & the story sounded intriguing, definitely felt inspired by Gaiman's Stardust. But . . . while an easy read, it feels like a debut novel that needed a bit more work. Aside from the overdone teen angst, there was too much tell & too little show/action. Despite the interesting folklore, this story is ultimately forgettable.

wanderinglynn I started reading this book a couple of months ago but couldn‘t get into it,so I set it aside. I may give it another go this month. That being said, I take ratings with a grain of salt. Everyone has books they love and don‘t love. There are books I love with low ratings. So what? I still love it regardless of what others think. And there are highly rated books that I panned. That‘s the beauty of books—there are books for every type of reader. 💜 3y

Ruthiella I enjoy using goodreads for cataloging what I‘ve read, but I pay VERY little attention to the ratings. If you loved it, you loved it and your taste in books cannot be denied! 3y

🎧 HOURS of angsty YA internal monologue & endless descriptions of “sour” stomachs. NO teen is this ridiculously angsty. MINUS 2 STARS!

I forced myself to power through because I own the OwlCrate version of this book & I‘m glad I did. If you can stomach (ha) the angst, the story was a lovely fairytale about love, betrayal, family, friendship, growth. SLOW burn. Everything good about this book gained a star back from what I took.

A solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Twainy PS - yikes … poor ratings! Read the 2 paragraph publisher‘s summary! I believe it‘s based on an Indian folk tale? It‘s sweet but it took me 60% of the book to get into it (I really have come to dislike the YA angst). (edited) 3y
