Lexi is offered a job as a nanny for Tom and his 2 children. Aurelia the mother has recently taken her own life but when Lexi finds her diary she wonders if all is as it seems with her death
This gothic thriller is atmospheric and builds suspense very well plus the Nordic backdrop gives the vibe of a dark fairytale
Very much enjoyed this one
Dark, chilling, but with just the right amount of realism to make it believable, this spooky tale set in the darkness of the Norwegian winter deals with loss, grief, family, myth and folklore and even a little hope and redemption. It follows Lexi as she escapes her own troubled life to pose as a Nanny to 2 young girls who have lost their mother in tragic, strange circumstances. Really enjoyable.
Carolyn is a fantastic writer, I first came across her with ‘i know my name‘. However the nesting wasn‘t for me, I stuck with it and there was certain aspects I did like. I just expected a little bit more.
I meant to do this yesterday 🤦🏾♀️
1) Not really. I live in California and these days everything is either green or brown
2) Hmm, I don‘t really have a favorite fall food
3) Several books but I definitely want to read House of Leaves this month

September has been bad for my wallet. There are so many new books that I want to read. 😩😥😬
I really enjoyed Cooke‘s latest atmospheric and spooky thriller! Set mainly in a remote building site in Norway, Lexi has left behind her life in London to assume someone else‘s as the new nanny. The family, recently bereft of the mother of two young girls, apparently has a story of their own as well with part of the book detailing events leading up to Aurelia‘s death. Engaging and entertaining, I can‘t wait to see what Cooke writes next!
I‘m sad the weekend is over, but hopefully the great weather will continue and I can finish this upcoming thriller in the hammock!
